Reporter: How is it sitting through the auditions?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): It is torture! It is fun to watch the process but it is tough sitting through it but you have to have that mix. We enjoyed all the cities we visited and met a lot of great talent.
Reporter: What should we expect that's different this upcoming season?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): This year there will be more focus on the contestants and less focus with their mentors. We are looking to highlight the lives of the contestants more. 90% of what happened on the show last season was good. We are reliant on the contestants so this season we booked a more interesting top 12. Also there will be a new set too.
Reporter: Were you let down with the record sales from Jordan and Blakes albums?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): Yes we were naturally disappointed that they did not sell more copies but the record business is very unpredictable and it really depends on what the public wants.
Reporter: Has the writers strike impacted the show?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): I don't think it has as big of an impact as people expected. We obviously still need to have a good show for people to watch.
Reporter: Do you have an exit date when you are planning on leaving the show?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): My contract is for two more seasons after this one so maybe at that time.
Reporter: Is there a certain look you are looking for with the talent you interviewed?
Simon Cowell, (American Idol): First impressions are very important. Really what it comes down to is voice, style and being an individual.
