We know these 21 day challenges have been, well, challenging. But maybe we don't know everything. Naked and Afraid gives us another Bares All episode to fill in all the details.
First impressions of their locations vary anywhere from seeing the beauty to finding their number one concerns right off the truck. Some survivalists find their surroundings to be familiar and aesthetically pleasing while others immediately concern themselves with heat, sun exposure and bugs. Certainly their attitudes at the very beginning predict their performance during the 21 days. Right after they size up their challenge, they size up each other. In some of the most unforgiving locations they are forced to meet a stranger butt naked. "That's how I noticed you, you had a large.... (referring to a walking stick)." Awkward? Sure, but only for a moment, there are more pressing matters ahead. Like warmth, oh wait, cuddling can be uncomfortable for two nude strangers, too.
Luckily they have their survival items to start fires. Except when you bring a magnifying glass... turns out that doesn't really work (not quickly enough anyways). Sometimes thinking outside of the box was beneficial. Like using your bags for fishing.
Hygiene is another issue the survivalists face. Anywhere from brushing their teeth with leaves to scrubbing with dirt. And feminine hygiene is a whole issue in itself. One female survivalist even tapped out after getting her period and vomiting for 5 days. What if the only water you had was a stinky water hole? Doesn't matter, that hair needs washing... and so does the downstairs area. So much for smelling good. And when the nighttime is upon you the distance to use the restroom is too much of a risk. Which means urine can be right outside your door. YUCK! What brings on the bugs more than stench?? Between flies trying to eat your infections and mosquitoes and spiders eating you alive you have no hope. They're not only using your body, they're driving your mind to madness. But have no fear, revenge is near! Speaking of food, how are those worms? And snails. And crickets. Right when you expect to crack open an egg to find a yolk you find hard boiled baby birds. Yummm. Note to future survivalists: detox off of caffeine. 8-10 shots of espresso a day will cause hangover-type symptoms when you're coming off of it.
The real question is, are there any visitors? Sure! Like Big Bertha, a massive 10-12ft alligator in the everglades. There's also friends made like turtles, owls, monkeys that pee on you. Nothing drives you to insanity more than an obnoxious partner. 3 out of the last 16 survivalists had to tap out so not everyone had to experience 21 full days of annoyance.
