Last night's hybrid episode of blinds and battles was just a taste of the awesome battle performances, but tonight they really got underway!
Christina paired two of her soulful powerhouse, Sonic and Amira, together and gave them the perfect anthem Jessie J's "Masterpiece". The song required the perfect amount of power and control so Christina was able to really see who had the best technique. They did an amazing job, but of course Christina could only pick one diva. She chose Sonic, and unfortunately none of the other judges wanted to steal Amira.
Blake followed suit by pairing two of his power houses together, Hannah Kirby and Sarah Potenza. Calling them a perfect match, he too was looking for control to be the determining factor in the winner of the battle. Their battle did all but BURN THE VOICE STAGE DOWN!! They were both equally amazing, but all the coaches kept gushing about how Hannah was able to rise against Sarah, clearly one of the most powerful voices in the whole competition. What they were saying is true, Hannah did give Sarah a run for her money, but that shouldn't come as a surprise just because Hannah came later in the blinds than Sarah did. I was quite shocked when Blake chose Sarah only because Pharrell, Christina, and Adam focused so much on Hannah, but they are a really good match. Fortunately, Hannah will be moving on with Team Pharrell.
Thankfully, not all the battles of the night were as close as Hannah and Sarah's. Adam put Blaze Johnson and Michael Leier together for the Magic! Hit "Rude". Michael felt that Blaze had the upper hand for the song because of the reggae beat, but let's not forget the song is sung by a bunch of white kids. The fact of the matter was that Blaze is BY FAR a better vocalist and Adam agreed.
My favorite battle of the night was between Pharrell's artists Meghan and Paul. They sang "Don't Let Me Down" and it was electric. She and Paul were both feeling apprehensive about being on the stage with only their voices; Meghan used to be part of a duo and tonight was Paul's first time performing on a stage without his guitar. Despite their feelings of nervousness, they blew it out of the park. They both have raw, AWESOME voices and they left it all on the stage. Pharrell could only pick one of them and he chose Paul. Then Blake stole Meghan, and he was probably the coach she was meant for anyway. So all is right in the Voice world. Stay tuned for next week as the battles continue!
