The second installment of Season 7 blind audition began tonight and the coaches are getting pretty comfortable in their chairs. Their pitches are getting old too. Adam and Blake play the newbie card on Gwen and Pharrell. Gwen shamelessly mentions that she' been in a band her whole life, Blake thinks every country artist should fall in his lap, and Pharrell boasts all his number one hits. Here are the best from the second round:
Contestant Name: Danica Shrey
Audition Song: "Big White Room"
Verdict: Three chairs
Coach Choice: Pharrell
Danica has an amazing voice, but she hasn't sang since her father died three years ago. As a stay at home mom, she doesn't get to share her voice with the world much, but she certainly did tonight. She sang a beautiful, soulful version of her song and ended up on Pharrell's team.
Contestant Name: Reagan James
Audition Song: Give Me Love
Verdict: Two Chairs
Coach Choice: Blake
This contestant was from the same town as Kelly Clarkson, Burleson Texas. She even looked like her, but that was where the similarities ended. Instead of the voice of a pop queen, sometimes country crossover, she had a smooth, jazzy R&B feel. She really wanted Pharrell as her coach, but he didn't turn around and boy did he regret it. Despite her rhythm and blues style, she ended up with ole' country boy Blake.
Contestant Name: Taylor Phelan
Audition Song: Sweater Weather
Verdict: Four chairs!
Coach Choice: Pharrell
In my opinion, this guy gave the best performance of the blinds so far. He performed a brilliant arrangement of the song, and he was gunning for Adam's attention. He sure got it - Adam was the first coach to turn his chair around. Their styles are so similar, and he really wanted Adam to be his coach - but he ended up choosing Blake!
Contestant Name: Maiya Sykes
Audition Song: "Stay With Me"
Verdict: Four Chairs!
Coach Choice:Pharrell
This girl has music running through her blood. Her father sang backup for one of the greatest bands of all time, Earth, Wind, and Fire. Most of the contestants were nervous, but Maiya approached the mic with confidence and BLEW IT OUT THE WATER. Pharrell described her as a mixture of Gladys Knight and and Aretha Franklin, and those must have been the magic words, because he scored her on his team!
Taylor and Maiya are the clear standouts of the night, maybe even the blinds thus far. Stay tuned for next week to see who else is in store.
