"I think I'm in love with someone I've never met." - Jill

She is referring to Derick, a 24 year old Arkansas native who attended Oklahoma City University then headed to Nepal after graduation for humanitarian work. Jill is the second Duggar daughter to decide on courtship. But her self-described "special friend", Derick, is 36 hours away in Nepal. So Jill and her father, Jim Bob, decide to travel to Kathmandu so that Derick and Jill have an opportunity to meet for the first time and decide if an official courtship is right for them.

For the past three months, Derick and Jill have communicated via video chat, texts and calls only (all chaperoned by a parent). They were introduced by Jim Bob, who has been Derick's prayer partner for over a year.

During their trip, Jim Bob realizes that although this is a strange way to partner up, he also realizes this may be his last chance to have alone time with his daughter for the rest of their lives... if the courtship does indeed lead to marriage which is the intention. Although it seems a bizarre situation, Jill is as normal of a smitten teenager as anyone. Halfway through their two day trip to Nepal Jill freshens up and does her hair and makeup through her iPad camera while sitting on the airport floor. And after they land, she runs into Dericks arms (only side hugs are allowed) and he greets her with flowers.

During their first date sight seeing around Kathmandu, Jim Bob admits to feeling like a third wheel explaining that he tried to stay approximately 20 or so feet away to stay close enough if his daughter needed him, but far enough to not be in the way. (He did try on traditional Nepali clothing, though.) I can't imagine my father being any closer than 10 miles on any of my dates as a teenager, but as Jill explains, she and and Derick are more than comfortable with a chaperone so her siblings will know that all purity was kept.
