We're down to the best of the best, and tonight, it was time for the Top 10 to perform. Here's how they did:
Team Blake
Austin - "Your Love" by The Outfield
When Austin goes on stage, he looks like he truly loves being there. Tonight, he seemed totally comfortable, almost like he was at home on his couch. He's not one of my favorites, but I can see why he made it this far.
Ray - "You Are the Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne
I consider last week to be his breakout performance. He proved that he deserved to be in the Top 10, and this week, he set out to do the same thing. He can certainly connect with the song because he's got a new romance budding back home. He did an awesome job, and I look forward to hearing more from him.
Cole - "To Be With You" by Mr. Big
Picking an oldie, but goodie, Blake set Cole up for the perfect performance. Combining a soft rock song with his soulful voice made for a perfect rendition of the song. My only complaint is that it seemed like the backup dancers handled more of the chorus and it's my favorite part of the song! Other than that, he did great.
Team Adam
Will - "Love Me Again" by John Newman
This song is brand new, and after Will's performance, it's safe to say I love it. It's true, this guy is the foster child of The Voice - he's been on everyone's team, but it seems like he's really finding his niche on Adam's Team.
Tessanne - "If I Were Your Woman" by Gladys Knight and the Pips
This song is a stone cold soul anthem and Tessanne ROCKED it. So far, this woman can do no wrong, and I would be extremely surprised if she didn't win the entire competition. I think Gladys would be proud - she definitely did her song justice! According to Adam, this performance solidified her place as a contender in the competition.
James - "Without You' by Harry Nilsson
This is probably the most vocally challenging song James has ever done on the show. I mean, most of us remember the Mariah Carey version, and she sang the heck out of that song. James certainly rose to the occasion, and MURDERED the song on stage! Even Adam looked shocked, and he was in rehearsal with him all week! He reminded me of Clay Aiken because of his powerful range.
Team Cee-lo
Caroline - "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver
Caroline actually approached Cee-lo with this song choice because she feels like she has an emotional connection to it. She revealed that she got into college and will be leaving home, so she really wanted to do this song. It ended up being the perfect song for her - because it allowed her voice to soar in a way we haven't really heard before.
Kat - "We Belong" by Pat Benatar
Last week, she was in the bottom three and was almost sent home. To prevent that from happening again, Cee-lo was looking for her performance this week to be bold and fierce. She was amazing on the stage - singing on top of a piano surrounded by her backup dancers. I don't really think that Kat will win the competition, but she will definitely have a successful career in music. Cee-lo said that everyone who watched her performance bore witness to the next big thing.
Team Christina
Jacquie - "Clarity" by Zedd
There is no doubt that Jacquie is a powerhouse, but this week, Christina wanted to show off the softer side of her prized pupil. She struggled a bit to find her footing in the beginning, but ended strong. All the judges agreed that while she did great, they all prefer to hear when she lets her vocals rip!
Matthew - "Beneath You're Beautiful" by Labyrinth
They switched it up a bit and gave Matthew a love song this week. He's an attractive kid, and I think Christina was trying to appeal him to the ladies to win their vote. Smart move! He did a great job as always, and that's why they keep choosing him to close out the show.
Stay tuned for tomorrow as the Top 8 is revealed and the judges perform with the teams!
