The ORIGINAL four coaches are all back together on The Voice stage!! Yes!! No offense to Shakira and Usher, but there is something magical about the chemistry between Blake, Christina, Cee-lo, and Adam. Christina came back with a newly slim body and Cee-lo was donning some strange new head tattoos. After performing a great rendition of the classic "I Love Rock n' Roll," it was time to get down to business and start building their teams.
Anyone who has watched The Voice knows that these coaches will get down and dirty to get the artists that they want, and this season premiere proved to be no exception! Christina played the "I'm back and fresh" card and Blake bragged to anyone that would listen that he won three seasons. Here are the best performances from the premiere:
Kat Robichaud
Wanting to make her recently deceased father proud, she took to the stage to sing I've Got the Music in Me" and earned a three chair turnaround. Christina, Blake, and Cee-lo. They all wanted her on their team, and despite Blake begging her to teach him about rock n roll, Cee-lo's proclamation that she set him on fire was what won her over.
Caroline Pennell
She's a super shy singer/songwriter with a raspy voice that turned the chairs of Cee-lo and Blake when she performed a tentative, yet solid rendition of techno queen Ellie Goulding's "Anything Can Happen". She chose to join Cee-lo's team, landing him yet another awesome artist.
Donna Allen
This lovely lady boasts that she's the oldest contestant in the competition and that she wants to be the first person over 40 to win The Voice. Her soulful voice immediately turned Christina's chair, and Adam followed shortly after. Breaking Christina's heart, she chose to go with Team Adam. I really think Christina would have been a better fit, but let's see what Adam can do with this powerhouse.
Matthew Schuler
From his first AMAZING bars of "Cough Syrup", he turned all four chairs in what's being called at the fastest four chair turn in voice HISTORY. His voice is clear, strong, and as Cee-lo put it, beautiful. All the coaches wanted him badly, and they were willing to throw each other under the bus and bribe in order to see him join their team. In the end, he chose Christina. She might finally be able to win the show with this one!
Nic Hawk
I've got to give this guy kudos for the most personality and original performance of the night. He did an amazing rendition of the break up anthem "Hit em' up style" by Blu Cantrell. His voice is so strong, and it's usually hard for a dude to sing a girl's song (especially a girl power anthem), but he was great! After filling the stage with personality, and hitting on Adam, he chose him for his coach. I hope he's able to focus around all of Adam's glory!
Shelbie Z.
This sassy plus sized powerhouse sung her heart out to "I'm Here for the Party" and proved that the cowboy boot curse is still alive and well, because she cowboy boot walked herself all the way to Blake's team, making her his first and only artist of the night.
James Wolpert
He dropped out of college to pursue his music full time, and after a stint working at an Apple store, he landed on The Voice stage. Singing "Love Interruption", he didn't have a lightening fast chair turnaround like Matthew, but by the time he hit that last raspy high note, all the coaches had turned around for him. He'll be moving on in the competition with Team Adam.
After Christina spanked Adam, I'm eager to see how wild the rest of the blind auditions get. Stay tuned tomorrow night for another round!
