Dancing With the Stars 16

by Kylene Hamulak

Even though there are still six couples left, Dancing With the Stars is gearing up for the semi-finals next week. What does that mean? Well, for one thing, every elimination from here 'til the end is just going to get harder.

Results, Round 1: With several couples standing on the dance floor steps, Ingo and Kym are declared SAFE, while Kellie and Derek are the first couple in jeopardy. Wait...what? Kellie and Derek? In JEOPARDY? And Ingo and Kym are safe? Yikes...I hope this doesn't get interesting.

Worth Seeing Twice: The trio of Zendaya, Val and Gleb's salsa is the judge's choice for the encore tonight, and it's just as much fun he second time around. I'm not even sure I have a favorite couple in the competition at this point, but this was definitely one of my favorite performances of the season.

Results, Round 2: Zendaya and Val join Jacoby and Karina for results right after their encore, which sort of takes the suspense out of it. Of course, Zendaya and Val are declared SAFE quickly, but Jacoby and Karina are in jeopardy. Come to think of it, since half of the pairs had to be in jeopardy, I guess it should be that shocking.

Still Got It: Jason Derulo, who was nearly paralyzed in an accident last year, begins his first televised performance since the injury by standing on his head. Literally. On his head. So I guess that's to prove that his neck works. He gives the crowd his new single "The Other Side" with some slick dance moves.

Next Week's Dances: The fans have been given the power to choose what dance their couples will be performing next week, and they've all got opinions on what they do and, more importantly, do NOT want to dance. By tweeting in their votes, fans assign the following:

Kellie and Derek - Flamenco

Ingo and Kym - Charleston

Zendaya and Val - Hip Hop

Sean and Peta - Disco

Aly and Mark - Afro Jazz

Jacoby and Karina - Lindy Hop

All the pairs seem happy with the choices.

Adventures of Peanut: Ingo's son Peanut takes us backstage for a glimpse of what life is like for DWTS's most popular kid. It's adorable when he tells Jacoby that his breath smells like Doritos.

Macy's Stars of Dance: Derek has choreographed a routine in a room that is literally turning up side down - the dancers will be defying gravity. The entire performance takes place in a box that is rotating on the dance floor. It's gimmicky, of course, but it's also the kind of thing you can't NOT try to figure out. They're literally dancing on the walls and ceiling of the room, and my brain hurts trying to make sense of it all.

Record Breaker: Emeli Sande recently broke a record held by the Beatles for nearly 50 years, after being a Top 10 album in the UK for more than 63 weeks. Tonight she performs "Next To Me," with a dance assist from Cheryl and Demetri.

Results, Round 3: Aly and Mark and Sean and Peta are the final set of dancers to get their results. Aly and Mark are SAFE and headed to the semi-finals, while Sean and Peta are headed to the corner with the other couples in jeopardy.

Final Results: Kellie and Derek are announced as SAFE and headed to the semi-finals, leaving Jacoby and Sean as our remaining stars. Brooke is careful to say that these are not necessarily the Bottom 2 this week, and that seems important. Jacoby and Karina are SAFE also, which means Sean and Peta are saying goodbye.

Sean and Peta are ELIMINATED.

Final Thoughts: I'll admit, I thought it would be Ingo tonight and Sean next week, but either way, his time was up. As for next week, all the couples seemed satisfied with their fan-assigned dances, so that should make for a fun night. Honestly? I can't imagine an evening where Zendaya does not get a perfect score with the hip hop routine. I'm looking forward to it!
