DWTS 16: Jacoby leaps over Karina

by Kylene Hamulak

After a night of side-by-side routines on Dancing With The Stars, one couple will stand alone under the glaring red light of elimination after tonight's results.

Out of this World: The show opens with a group dance that takes place on the ballmoon. With interesting effects on the dance floor, the pros perform a number choreographed by Mark and Derek that Tom describes as "the space invasion disco."

First Results: Kellie and Derek are the first couple declared SAFE, but Ingo and Kym learn that they're in jeopardy.

Dream Come True: Jacoby and Karina's Jive returns to the dance floor for an encore. Performing with Maks and Anna, Jacoby's dream of being chosen is realized, despite Zendaya and Val's perfect scores. He puts a little extra oomph in this performance too - see, kids? It's good to have dreams.

Chmerkovskiy Chmandwich:  Following her terrific performance with Val and Maks, we learn that Zendaya had to endure not only dance training, but also some brotherly love. In a clip from their rehearsals, we learn that their mama expects these boys to take care of each other, even though Maks claims he doesn't let anything go wrong with him. Val, however, describes him as "one big wrong." Favorite insult? "You look like a gondola rider," Val tells Maks. He's right. I was thinking the same thing. Oh, and by the way? Zendaya and Val are SAFE.

Not-So-Safe: Victor and Lindsay learn they're in jeopardy. "We've been here before," Victor says with a smile.

Special Guests: The Band Perry performs "Better Dig Two" while Tristan and Whitney take to the dance floor. Not only do I miss Tristan and wish Dorothy was still dancing, but I hope Whitney gets her chance as a pro in an upcoming season.

Len's Pep Talk: Len gives a half-way pep talk to the competitors that may or may not actually be helpful. "The more you sweat, the better you get," he tells them. "This is a world of lattes - dare to be a cup of tea." "Careful doesn't get you a standing ovation." Some of these gems are bound to find their way into graduation speeches this year. Or....not.

Break for Results: Tom announces Jacoby and Karina are SAFE next, joined quickly by Aly and Mark.

Team Captains: With team dances coming for the first time next week on the Stevie Wonder themed show, Kellie and Derek and Zendaya and Val have been declared the captains. Team Paso will dance to "Higher Ground" while Team Samba will dance to "Superstition."

Macy's Stars of Dance: Stacey Tookey has choreographed tonight's routine, with Kerli performing "Love Me or Leave Me" on a rotating turntable.

Another Special Guest: Selena Gomez performs her latest single, "Come And Get It." The ballroom has been transformed into some sort of garden for Selena and her dancers.

Next Results: Bromance is alive and well for Sean and Tristan - too bad he gave away his final rose already, 'cause I think Catherine may have had some competition! Cheryl is happy that DL danced with confidence instead of a nervous breakdown, and Andy? He's just loving life, even if the judges don't always love him. Sean and Peta are SAFE, and - surprise! - Andy and Sharna are SAFE too. That puts DL and Cheryl in jeopardy.

Final Decision: Ingo and Kym are the first of the three couples in jeopardy to be declared SAFE, leaving Victor and Lindsay and DL and Cheryl at risk. When the final announcement is made, Victor and Lindsay are SAFE.

DL and Cheryl are eliminated.

Final Thoughts: To DL's credit, he did last longer than anyone could've expected after a disastrous first couple of weeks.
