One thing is for sure about Project Runway All Stars: they are bringing in some big names to serve as guest judges for Season 2. We saw the iconic Diane von Furstenberg last week and this week it is all about Kylie Minogue and La La Anthony. La La is a TV personality that made a name for herself and her hosting abilities on MTV. She has interviewed some of the biggest stars in Hollywood and is often seen on the red carpets. She serves as a guest judge this week on PR All Stars and today she spoke to RealityWanted and other reporters in a conference call about her experiences as a guest judge on Project Runway All Stars.
Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you want to be a guest judge this season on Project Runway All Stars?
A. La La: I'm into fashion and I love fashion. I love the show, so when I was asked I was just honored. To be able to see people be so creative and bring ideas to live is still so fascinating to me, so I was happy to be a part of it. I guess I would say it was just my love of fashion.
Q. What were you looking for in the designs when you were a guest judge?
A. La La: The task that they had was to make a look out of Christmas decorations, so of course in that kind of task what you are looking for is, of course, creativity. The fact that these designers were able to make such amazing pieces out of Christmas supplies and ornaments, I was just blown away, but I was definitely looking for creativity.
Q. Which designer would you like to wear?
A. La La: I liked a lot of them, but I loved Casanova. I really loved Uli, she was my favorite.
Q. Would you ever consider doing your own fashion line?
A. La La: It's funny you should ask that. I just did a deal with Shopbop.com for a clothing line that my spouse and I collaborated with called Fifth and Mercer. Tomorrow the first piece goes on sale on Shopbop.com. We did a simple jumper just to ease our way into it and see how it does and take it from there.
Q. What Christmas materials would you have used to make a look out of?
A. La La: (laughs) That is so funny. I would probably choose garland because you can maybe make a cool skirt or cool top somehow. There is no denying that making anything out of Christmas ornaments is very difficult and I was blown away by what these designers were able to do.
Q. Were you a fan of Project Runway before being a judge?
A. La La: I'm a fan of Project Runway, of Project Runway All Stars. Just the fact that people respect my opinion when it comes to fashion, that was what was cool to me and I was happy to be a part of it.
Q. What was the inspiration behind Fifth and Mercer?
A. La La: The name itself tells a lot about it. It's Fifth Ave. and Mercer. Fifth Ave. is super high-end and Mercer is edgy, downtown, and chic and I feel my clothing is a perfect merge between the two. High end, edgy, downtown, chic and that is how we came up with the name and that is kind of what the clothing line embodies. Even with just the one garment that we are going to start selling, we've already had Kelly Rowland wear it, Gabrielle Union. I sent Kim Kardashian hers the other day, so she is going to wear it. So many people are loving it and starting to wear it, which is awesome.
Q. Since you have watched the show over the years, when you were a guest judge was it harder than you thought it would be or not?
A. La La: It was really fun, but at the same time you want to be honest with people. I want to say that being honest with people doesn't mean that you have to be mean. Some people get on the judges' panel and want to be mean and be so hard on people. All people want is your honesty and if you are honest it doesn't mean you have to be mean about it. I really enjoyed being honest with them, but also being positive as well and give these designers encouragement. It takes a lot of guts to do what they are doing.
