Amanda Brown on The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

It is Quarterfinals time on The Voice Season 3, so this is a huge week for the remaining six singers. The Top 6 will sing two songs tonight: one of their choice and one chosen by their coach. Two more singers will go home and the other four will make the Semifinals on The Voice! Let's see what they got tonight.

Christina Aguilera lost her last singer last week when Dez Duron was sent home, so now it is down to two singers each for Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green.

Nicholas David (Team Cee Lo) - "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire
Cee Lo was out sick this past week, so Patrick Monahan from Train filled in for him. Before he got sick, Cee Lo chose this song for Nicholas and Patrick wants him to try some new things with it. I am a huge fan of Nicholas, but this wasn't one of his best performances. He has so much soul and it did shine through, but it was lacking compared to the other amazing performances he has given. Cee Lo said he did a good job and he is still his Nick and he loves him.

Cassadee Pope (Team Blake) - "Stand" by Rascal Flatts
Blake went back to country for Cassadee after she knocked it out of the park with "Over You" by Miranda Lambert. He now picked a Rascal Flatts song for her. There was a lot of gold going with her shiny leather pants, but this was a decent performance. She has a great voice and hit some big notes, but I think it lacked the emotion of what most country songs have. Good voice, but lacking in the performance area for me. Blake said if you know that record than you know what she just did with it. She made it her own and it was wonderful.

Amanda Brown (Team Adam) - "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin
Amanda chose this song for herself and Adam said it has never been performed on the show, so it is a first for The Voice. Like Adam said, this song builds up the emotion and it did start a little slow for me, but it sure kicked in. She sang it with a bunch of emotion and I really enjoyed it and I just love her voice and personality on stage. Adam said seeing this happen for her is so exciting and she is a world-class singer and hopefully everyone knows that and that was an awe inspiring performance.

Terry McDermott (Team Blake) - "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner
He loves the lyrics and it reminds him of when his mother passed away and his wife was his backbone, so Terry chose this song for her. Blake wanted to strip it down, so it is Terry, a microphone and a piano tonight. Very good choice by Blake about stripping him down, as this was an awesome performance. It was pure and raw and so emotion and I loved it. Blake said that was unbelievable.

Trevin Hunte (Team Cee Lo) - "Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves
Cee Lo wanted to pull Trevin out of his comfort zone and chose an upbeat song for him this week. Trevin tried an upbeat song a couple weeks ago when he took on Usher and that did not work out well for him with America and I don't think this one will either. He can hit big notes and this song did not show that at all and I was a little bored, even though it is an upbeat song. Cee Lo said I know you were having some apprehension with the song, but I hope you feel it now and I think you did a great job with it.

Melanie Martinez (Team Adam) - "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
First of all, she went to black and blue hair this week. Melanie decides to take on a song by Cee Lo Green and she is putting her own twist on it. Can we have another "Toxic" moment tonight? I am in love. She knocked it out of the park with "Toxic" and now she brings us back to it tonight. She totally worked the arrangement and made the song her own and is so strong. Adam said there were some pitch issues, but who cares. It is so fun to watch everything that she does and he is a huge fan of hers.

Terry McDermott (Team Blake) - "Stay With Me" by Rod Stewart
Blake chose this song because it is a classic and that is what Terry is, a classic. This was a fun and upbeat side for Terry and I liked it. It was very much the rocker in him and he sounded really good. Blake said he has a laser pitch and combines it with passion and he keeps pushing it to the next level.

Trevin Hunte (Team Cee Lo) - "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" by Jennifer Hudson
This was a huge choice for Trevin, but he wanted to tell America that he is not going anywhere in this competition. The chills are back for a Trevin Hunte performance. Ballads are what he does best and he worked it out for this song. He hits notes that maybe even Jennifer Hudson didn't even hit and was beyond amazing. A flawless performance for Trevin. Christina said if a record deal doesn't come to him after this show, she would like to personally take him under her wing and on the road with him. Cee Lo said thank you so much for blessing me with that and the competition is done.

Amanda Brown (Team Adam) - "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake
Adam wanted to bring out the inner rock in her, so he chose this song for her. The choice by Adam worked out great because I loved this performance. She is a natural performer and is so strong on the stage and I am rooting for an Amanda Brown victory. Adam said this was definitely a risk and it just suits her. I wanted to see different ends of the spectrum tonight and show off her range.

Melanie Martinez (Team Adam) - "The Show" by Lenka
Adam thought her last few songs have been somber, so this is a chance to show her lighter side. This song choice reminded me that Melanie is only 17 years old and it was cute and fun to see. The song fit with her vocals very well and it was cute to see her up on the stage. Adam said he loves coming up with ideas together and he loves seeing them come together and she has established an incredible fan base.

Cassadee Pope (Team Blake) - "I'm With You" by Avril Lavigne
Cassadee said this is her dream song and woke up dreaming this song and she won it all and Blake thinks it is the right song. I think Cassadee Pope sounds like Avril Lavigne, so this was a very good choice by her, but is it too much like the original? She sings it very well and hits some huge notes, but I kind of wanted to see something a little different. Blake said people are realizing that you can't teach/coach someone to feel the lyrics and Cassadee can sing really well.

Nicholas David (Team Cee Lo) - "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"
This is Nicholas' mother's favorite song and she has always been his biggest fan, so he wanted to sing it for her. I think his Mom would be proud. He put a little twist on this classic song and I am a fan. He kept his soul and his voice just has something to it that I love. Cee Lo said he has made it through so much trial and error and he has acquired so much enthusiasts in what he does. He is a loyal supporter of him and he was pleasantly surprised.
