Jennel Garcia on The X Factor

by Todd Betzold

The Top 12 on The X Factor became the Top 13 last week when the judges decided to bring back Diamond White. After Jason Brock was sent home last week, that means here we are again with the Top 12 taking the stage to sing for your votes on The X Factor. The big news this week: two singers will be heading home this week!

Jennel Garcia (Young Adults) - "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner
They want her on top this week and Demi wants to see the Jenell that we first saw. I feel this was more fun and more like the Jennel from the beginning. The vocals weren't the greatest, but she was more her. L.A. said she just returned to the competition and that was smoking. Britney said Tina would be proud. Simon said she is back in the game and you look better and sound better. Demi said she is so proud of her and she looks amazing.

Tate Stevens (Over 25s) - "From This Moment" by Shania Twain
Tate has been missing his family and they came to see him during the show and that made him a happy man. L.A. said he needs to sing this song to his wife. This was amazing and gave me chills. You could feel the emotion in his lyrics and he was singing that song to his wife and it was an excellent performance. Britney said it was so heartfelt and his vocals were amazing. Demi said he is so good. Simon said that was better than last week (in which he finished number one) and he would be happy to write him the $5 million check.

Diamond White (Teens) - "Halo" by Beyonce
She is glad to be back and to go from elimination to the number four spot in the rankings! I think the song is too big for Diamond. Everyone will be compared to the original diva and it is tough to be compared to Beyonce. Diamond has a strong voice, but it seemed to be lacking in this song. L.A. said they were big shoes to fill with that song and she filled them. Demi said she gives the rest of the competition a run for their money. Simon said the second half of the track was much better and we are looking at a future star. Britney said she just keeps getting better and it amazes her.

Beatrice Miller (Teens) - "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper
Britney said she has had a tough week, but will pull through. The fact that Beatrice has two Moms makes me like her even more. I think Britney chose a great song for her and I really enjoyed this performance. It fit her voice very well. It stayed pretty mellow, but she hit a big note at the end. L.A. said it wasn't a great song choice and it didn't let her peak. Demi liked the song choice and it showcased a side we haven't seen. Simon said it was better than last week, but the song was boring. Britney said Beatrice has more talent in her pinky finger than all of Simon's groups together and the performance was so special.

Lyric 145 (Groups) - Queen/Katy Perry Medley
Simon starts it out saying they changed the song at midnight last night. I love this group. I think they are so entertaining and different. I think there is something special with them and I want to see them go far in this competition. L.A. said it was good, but he thinks they have lost their way and it could be the last time we see them. Britney said they are a hip hop group and should be singing hip hop tracks. Demi said she didn't get it at all and it made no sense. Simon said he did get it and he thinks people at home will get it and they bring an energy this show needs.

Arin Ray (Teens) - "Crazy For You" by Madonna
He is excited to sing this song because he thinks he can be singing it to Normani from Fifth Harmony...love on The X Factor? This was not good at all. It was boring and just seemed awkward the whole time. L.A. said he was struggling with that and he wants goosebumps and he didn't get a $5 million performance. Demi said she was bored watching it and he lacked soul. Simon said he looked like he hated it and he didn't seem interested and it was not right for him. Britney said it is one of her favorite Madonna songs and he nailed it.

Paige Thomas (Young Adults) - "Last Dance" by Donna Summer
Demi thinks this could get Paige connecting with the audience. Paige used to be one of my favorites, but she keeps falling and falling every week for me. I thought it was boring and half the time you couldn't hear her. She has a quiet voice and she needs to be more powerful and strong with this song. L.A. said this was her best yet. Britney said it was like a disco ball exploded on stage. Simon said that was her best performance yet and she didn't need the dancers behind her. Demi said she nailed it and loved it.

Fifth Harmony (Groups) - "Hero" by Mariah Carey
They feel they are blending well together and happy to be in top five last week because they thought they were going home. For the first time, I felt they were a group and I enjoyed this performance. They sang well together and I enjoyed the rendition of the song. L.A. said there is something lovable about all of them. Britney was extremely impressed. Demi did an incredible job on the song and their vocals killed it. Simon said maybe there is a chance that five girls with brilliant voices could win this.

Carly Rose Sonenclar (Teens) - "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion
This is a huge song to take on, so she could be in trouble tonight. The song is absolutely no problem for Carly Rose and she nails it. She has an amazing voice and it shined on this song. L.A. said we could be looking at the winner. Demi said you are so good and it doesn't make sense and she can't believe that is her voice. Simon said he doesn't believe she is a human being because you can't do that at 13 years old. Britney said she has chills all over her body and she is spectacular.

Vino Alan (Over 25s) - "Let's Stay Together" by Tina Turner
It is done by Tina Turner, but also by many men, like Al Green. I have been up and down with Vino this season and I am up with him after this performance. This was a great song choice for him and it brought out all the soul in his voice and he performed it very well. Britney said his voice is so soulful. Demi said he has a soulful voice and she liked it better than last week, but she was a little bored. Simon said his voice is designed for a moment and that song wasn't that song. L.A. said he put his soul into it and sang it so strong.

Emblem3 (Groups) - "No One" by Alicia Keys
They finished number six last week and expected to be higher, so they see they have to work at this. They are cute and they are fun, but this was boring to me. It just seemed like they weren't even into it on the stage and they are normally pumped on stage. I like them, but not this performance. L.A. said they are complete superstars and exactly what this show needs. Britney said they are complete heartthrobs. Demi said they have such a great energy. Simon said it was brilliant.

CeCe Frey (Young Adults) - "All By Myself" by Celine Dion
She has had an emotional week after being in the bottom two last week and now she either goes home or goes up the charts. I have been trying to like CeCe and rooting for her, but she has lost her confidence that she showed during the auditions. It was boring. L.A. said she will be at the bottom again. Britney said she just doesn't get it. Simon said she likes her because she tries things, but it was very cabaret. Demi said she nailed it and they are being way too hard on her.
