NEW YORK, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Armchair quarterbacks unite! For every sports fan that has yelled "My grandmother could have made that catch!!!" or "I could make that throw in my sleep!!!," Spike TV brings sports competition to a new dimension as regular guys will get the opportunity to compete against their sports heroes in "Pros vs. Joes." The series premieres in April 2006 and will consist of ten one-hour weekly episodes.

The Pros featured in the Spike TV series include Jerry Rice (future NFL Hall of Famer who holds most receiving records), Herschel Walker (1982 Heisman Trophy winner), Karl Malone (future NBA Hall of Famer and legendary Utah Jazz forward), Bo Jackson (Heisman Trophy winner, 2-sport All Star), Tony Dorsett (four-time Pro Bowl Dallas Cowboys running back), Clyde Drexler (NBA Hall of Famer), Jennie Finch (Olympic softball star), Jim McMahon (former Chicago Bears quarterback), Brandi Chastain (former U.S. National Soccer Team star), Dominique Wilkins (former NBA All Star known as "The Human Highlight Film"), Alexi Lalas (former U.S. National team soccer star), Muggsy Bogues (former NBA point guard), Xavier McDaniel (former NBA All Star forward), Bill Goldberg (former wrestling superstar and NFL linebacker), Dan O'Brien (Olympic decathlete), Gary Hall Jr. (eight-time Olympic medalist swimmer), Misty May (U.S. Olympic gold medalist volleyball player), and Dave Stewart (4-time 20- game winner and MVP of 1989 World Series for the Oakland Athletics). More participating athletes to be announced.

"This series will answer the age-old question every guy is thinking -- if I got the chance -- could I prove I'm a better athlete than an NFL Hall of Famer like Jerry Rice, and NBA Hall of Famer like 'The Mailman,' or even one of the world's best female soccer players," noted Sharon Levy, Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming, Spike TV.

Joe Townley, President of Clear Channel Entertainment Television adds, "We are making dreams come true for a few lucky sports fans and providing entertaining programming at the same time. I don't believe there are any avid sports fans out there who haven't dreamt of an opportunity like this or wouldn't want to see the drama and thrill of it as it happens to an average "Joe" much like them."

HOW THE SHOW WORKS
* "Pros vs. Joes" will feature regular guys who will compete against each
other for a shot at winning season tickets to their favorite team. The
only thing standing in their way is a team of superstar athletes from
different athletic backgrounds.

* Each week, three Joes will go up against a super star team of five Pros.
The Joes and Pros will be put through different challenges that will
test their athletic skills, physical stamina and brute strength. Pros
will be challenged not only in their own sports, but will compete in
sports in which they have limited experience.

* Viewers will be given an exclusive, inside look at the conversations and
antics that happen in the Pro locker room as they plot the demise of the
Joes. The finale will culminate with the best performing Pros pitted
against the favorite Joes who will compete for the ultimate sports
fantasy prize package.
