John Scarpino - RealityWanted Success Story

by Gina Scarpa

RealityWanted member John Scarpino wasn't a member of the site long before he achieved one of his goals - he was cast on a gameshow and better yet, he won some money while doing it! A little while later, he was cast again for a show on the Travel Channel, winning not one, but two free vacations. Now, reality television has called for him again, and he'll appear on a show on a major network within the next year. Read on to find out more about John's success and how RealityWanted helped him achieve his dream of getting on television.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to sign up for RealityWanted?
A. John: Well, I signed up probably around six years ago. I was searching for reality shows and I came across RealityWanted's site. I saw it had casting calls and was like a social networking site. I saw everything it provided and I liked what I saw. I thought I'd give it a try and back then, it was so hard to find true castings that were legit. I had a lot of great results. I love the site.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What kind of show were you hoping to get on?
A. John: At first, I wanted to go on a game show. I loved Deal Or No Deal and I actually got cast for it! I did it about four years ago, the syndicated show. They flew me out to Connecticut and I ended up winning $17K which was fun. After that, it was an adrenaline rush. I wanted to do more than just a game show. I wanted to do reality television.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you apply for everything or were you picky about the shows you wanted to be on?
A. John: I'm a specific type of person. I don't apply for just any show. I look for shows that apply to my background and what I like to do. Deal or No Deal was me. I'm a very competitive person. I love shows like Big Brother, I was a semifinalist for it four times. It wasn't in the cards for me but I'm a huge Big Brother fan. I love the show! I signed up for RealityWanted's email list which is a great thing to have because the castings come directly into your inbox.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How long were you a member before you got a show? What was the audition process like?
A. John: Probably a year and a half after signing up, I got Deal or No Deal. I signed up through RealityWanted and a casting director emailed me saying they'd be in Pittsburgh and wanted me to attend. I ended up going there and waited 12 hours in line for a 30 second interview. Let me tell you, I was so mad! The guy told me up front... they sat me in front of four judges... they said they'd give me 30 seconds to tell them why I want to be on the show. I said, "You mean to tell me I just waited 12 hours for 30 seconds?!" and they were like, "I like you!" I said what I had to say, they gave me a wristband, I got a private interview, I did a mock game the following day, and then they said they could call a week, a month, or a year from now. I didn't hear from them for a year!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Have you noticed that castings have changed over the years?
A. John: I notice that castings have gotten better. You can interact with people that have made it on shows on RealityWanted or vote for people. It's a great thing to have. I notice I get a lot of emails without even applying for anything. If a casting director sees my profile, they email me. I look at it and decide whether or not to respond with a yes or no but I always respond. I believe that now, it's changed since I started on RealityWanted. I feel like they're working for me now. People are contacting me without me contacting them. Everyone has busy lives. It's a great thing to have! I'm in the process of doing another reality show, which I can't talk about right now. You'll be seeing me on tv very, very soon.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Tell us about the second show you were cast on through the site.
A. John: Me and my family were cast on Top Spot on Travel Channel which aired in July. I applied through RealityWanted about a year ago. They were looking for families with a dream to go to Miami. As soon as I saw Miami... I took my wife to Miami for our honeymoon and I was planning a trip back for her 40th birthday. They loved my story, they called me a week later, and wanted more info and pictures. Four months later, they called and said we were going to Miami. It's almost like House Hunters. They took us to three places in Miami and we chose one top spot for our vacation. We chose Trump Towers and two days later, I got an email from the concierge at the hotel. Donald Trump called them, saying he loved the show and gave us a free vacation! We're going back next April.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's the ultimate dream for you?
A. John: Honestly, I would like to have my own show. I actually was in contact with a casting company to have my own show. It's still kind of up int he air. It's for a major network but right now, it's put on hold. The casting director sent me a long email saying it's part of show business, that it doesn't mean it's gone and it may come back. If it does come back, it could be big for me. I love to entertain people and make people laugh.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Can you tell us ANYTHING about your new show coming up?
A. John: It's a new show coming out in the next year. There are some people that are going to be there that are known celebrities so I'm pretty excited about it.
