The Bachelorette Season 8

by Gina Scarpa

This week on The Bachelorette, the first one on one date card goes to Chris, who Emily has been taken with since the first night. The pair head to downtown Charlotte for dinner on top of a building but in order to get there, they'll have to climb to the top. I could swear I read that Emily wasn't the adventurous type but I guess ABC can be persuasive. Never mind the fact that I'm over the metaphors like, "Love is a steady climb" or "You start at the bottom and work your way up in a relationship". Maybe its just me...

There must have been a shower before this dinner because they both look incredibly sweat-free. Emily and Chris have a great connection but when he reveals he's only 25, she starts to get nervous. One of her biggest concerns this season, legitimately, is whether or not the guy she picks will be ready to become a dad. More on that later. He says the right things to convince her that he's ready to get serious with her and for that, he gets the rose, a concert by country singer Luke Bryan, and a few kisses.

On the group date, the guys think they're headed to the park to play football but Emily mysteriously disappears, then returns to let them know they're actually going to be grilled by her not-so-fun friends. Oh great. Just what they had in mind. The guys do what they can to impress, from dancing to pushups to taking their shirts off. After that, they're asked to play with a bunch of random kids in the park. There's a lot of force feeding going on here. Ryan breaks away to try to talk to Emily but ends up insulting her, basically saying that he wouldn't love her as much if she gained weight after they got married. Did she send him home right then and there? Nope.

The after party is full of drama, with Doug telling the sad story of his upbringing to Tony breaking down because he misses his son. Knowing that she's not going to take Tony to the end, she tells him (nicely) to go home and be with his son. The date rose goes to Sean, probably because he took his shirt off.

The last one on one of the week goes to Arie, the racecar driver. They board a private plane headed for Dollywood in Tennessee. After running through a carnival and riding some rides, they are surprised by a mini-concert and chat with Dolly Parton herself, who is so cool! She even wrong a song for them and offers Emily some words of encouragement when it comes to finding love. Over dinner, he reveals that he previously dated a woman with two kids and says he has a busy schedule. Lucky for him, she's okay with that. She likes her own space but invades his with a little makeout session and of course, the rose.

At the cocktail party, Kalon is upset because he didn't get a date this week. When they try to hash it out, he shuts her down and asks her to stop talking. What??? I would've shown him the limo right then and there but Emily bites her tongue and keeps a tense smile on her face. Alessandro gets his time alone with Emily and calls raising Ricki a "compromise". Combine that with the fact that he admitted to cheating on an ex and having one night stands to her friends and he is sent home, right then and there. I wouldn't have minded if Kalon shared the ride to the airport but I'll get over it. His time is coming.

Right before roses are handed out, the guys spot Arie and Emily making out yet again and of course, they're pissed. I thought she wasn't going to be kissing everyone this season. Certainly not in front of everyone. Roses are handed to Jef, Charlie, Doug, Michael, Travis, Alejandro, Ryan, John, Kalon, and Nate. Thus, party DJ Stevie B is sent packing. No loss there.
