From the minute Sera Hill stepped onto the stage this season on The Voice, she looked like a star. Her performance of "I'm Going Down" during the blind auditions caught the attention of Christina Aguilera, who took her under her wing. Sera faced off against Geoff McBride in the battle round and Christina chose her once again to move on. Now, as she prepares for the live shows, she took some time to talk to RealityWanted about her journey thus far and looks ahead to what's next.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you want to try out for The Voice?
A. Sera: I did watch the first season and I was kind of like, "You know what? I like singing, I think I have a good voice, so why not try out for The Voice?"
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: I loved your audition song, "I'm Going Down", so much that I downloaded it on iTunes! How did you choose that song and was it a difficult choice?
A. Sera: That's so interesting because I've been singing that song for such a long time and it's like, natural to me. At first, I was going to do "Firework" by Katy Perry but I forgot the words so at the last minute, I was like, "I'll sing I'm Going Down" and it came to me right there. I knew the words and it was natural.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: So far, what has Christina Aguilera been like to work with as a coach?
A. Sera: Oh my gosh! Christina has been nothing short of amazing and she's so talented! I've been listening to her since I was a little kid. She's so nice and she's very professional and you've gotta be on point. She's teaching me how to be on point at all times and stay humble and be a sweet diva.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: For your battle song against Geoff McBride, you were given "Chain Of Fools", which definitely seemed to play more to your strengths than his. Did you feel confident going into that performance?
A. Sera: I felt good about that. I've always listened to the old school music. I grew up on that and Geoff did as well. He's a seasoned performer but I just like songs like that with attitude and I think Christina saw that. I was very cool with it.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The live shows are coming soon! How are you feeling?
A. Sera: I'm nervous and excited! I can't wait to see what happens and I'm just hoping that the fans come out to support and vote because that's the thing. It's all in America's hands now.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Who are you a fan of in this competition?
A. Sera: I must say that I'm a fan of everybody. Everyone is so talented and unique in their own way. I've experienced firsthand my own teammates and Lindsay is one of my favorites. She's Team Xtina and we've been around each other a lot. I get to see her preparation for her thing and that's cool.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What kind of artist would you say that you are and what kind of music are you hoping to make once The Voice is over?
A. Sera: I would say that I'm R&B and soul/pop. I would like to stick to that thing. I would like to bring back real melodies and real music. That's kind of what's needed here and that's what I want to do - along the lines of Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, and all that. Even with hip-hop incorporated.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you want to say to your fans and fans of The Voice?
A. Sera: I want to say to them that you guys are amazing and I love you all! I will not let you down in the live shows. It's going to be more entertainment!
