After weeks of hype, advertisements, and promotions, NBC is hoping for huge numbers on tonight's Season 2 premiere of The Voice...conveniently right after the Super Bowl.
Time for Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine to battle it out with each other during the blind auditions (I love these), as they try to form their teams of 12 singers this season. On a side note, Christina brought out the boobs tonight for the premiere.
Up first is RaeLynn from Baytown, Texas, and she sings "Hell On Heels," a song by Blake's wife, Miranda Lambert. Adam turns around right away and Blake joins him shortly after. Adam and Blake fight it out, but with his connection to country and Miranda, of course she goes with Team Blake.
Bring on the background story to make you cry...wife left him, single dad, homeless. Will Jesse Campbell be the next Javier Colon? Adam, Cee Lo and Christina turn around instantly, but Blake took some time and eventually turned around as well...a full-on battle to come. He goes with Team Christina because she said she'll fight for him and he is ready to fight!
This is why I love this show...the singers are judged only on their voice. The judges can't see the singers and base their decision only on their voice. Would Daniel Rosa have made it this far on American Idol? Probably not, but he did on The Voice, however none of the judges turned around. The guy could sing, but had some pitch problems. I got a little misty-eyed for him, but he was humble and you have got to love that.
Can rocker Juliet Simms get rocker Adam to turn his chair around? Oh man, Juliet rocked the crap out of "Oh! Darling" and this is another reason I love this show...these people can sing, even the ones that don't get the judges to turn around. She got Adam, Cee Lo and Christina to turn around. They all worked it hardcore to get her to choose them, including some tension between Christina and Adam, but she chooses Team Cee Lo (this season's Vicci Martinez)?
Chris Mann doing it for his mom, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a year ago? Trying to make me cry The Voice? It worked! The opera singer comes out with a HUGE voice and no judges were turning around, but then Cee Lo wised up right before Christina did. Another emotional moment of him trying to be an individual before he chooses Team Christina.
Last singer of the night...I bet he goes to Team Adam, since he has no one yet. Tony Lucca, a former Mouseketeer with Christina, has that connection with her if he can get her to turn her chair around. Well, he gets all four judges to turn around, sort of...Adam kinda helped Cee Lo push his button. Christina doesn't recognize him and since Adam actually pushed two buttons Tony goes with Team Adam.
Christina comes backstage for some more camera time and talks with Tony and meets his family...a Mouseketeer reunion...and apparently Britney had a huge crush on him...cute!
