They took a week off last week on Work Of Art: The Next Great Artist, but the artists are back and revving it up this week.
We start the show with Dusty sporting Young's short shorts after losing a bet when they won the challenge...get to see a fun side of Dusty...I liked it.
The artists head to the gallery and are surrounded by random parts of a Fiat 500, which they will use for their next challenge. For this challenge, they will have to create a piece of art incorporating at least one part from the Fiat 500. They have 15 minutes to gather all the parts they want to use. The winner of the challenge will get $25,000!
The artists scramble around the gallery to scoop up the pieces they feel might work into a successful winning piece. None of the artists seem to be struggling with the challenge, with most not knowing anything about cars.
Michelle goes back to her crazy body pieces and going with a distorted body where all the bolts represent the spine and balloons are the intestines. Sara J. is going with cutting out a car seat and seeing where she goes from there. Lola has no clue what she is doing again, but that's normal.
Kymia finds the key to the car in her pieces and will use that to inspire her piece. Dusty, meanwhile, wants to put a mold of his face onto the steering wheel and proceeds to put mold all on his face, while the other artists think he is crazy for doing it.
Michelle's idea has some of the other artist thinking her ideas are crazy, but she always seems to do well so we shall see. Then Kymia forgot to go get the mold of Dusty's face, but gets there and it peels off fine with only a little burning.
Sara J. starts gluing the car seat foam onto the muffler and she has a new energy come out of her from this. Young doesn't really work with sculpture, but with all the car parts he wants to let loose and have fun.
Sarah K. strips the car seats and makes an abstract piece with both car seats to represent her father, who passed away last year. We then find out Lola's grandmother was a witch and taught her her ways when she was young, but she is a good witch...oh my!
Simon comes in for his studio visit with the artists. He seems to be enjoying the piece by Sarah K. and as always, he is skeptical of Lola's
piece...she starts freaking out and not sure if she will just keep going at her piece or trash it and start a new one.
More mixed reviews from Simon with the other artists, which gets some of them switching up their pieces, like Lola. Michelle is trying to come up with something better after Simon's review and Lola is upset with how good Sara J.'s piece is. They all agree that if Young wins again, he will have to lock his door!
They finish for the night and come in the next morning to finish up their pieces before the gallery show. Dusty and Kymia are trying to finish up their pieces and Michelle makes a whole new piece in one hour.
Time to meet the judges and get the gallery show started. We have China, Jerry and Bill back again and special judge this week Liz Cohen, performance artist and automotive designer. No one knows what to think after gallery show, as usual.... so, let's get to the results.
China asks to speak to the following artists: Kymia, Sara J., Lola, Michelle and Sarah K. Dusty and Young are safe...so no win for Young this week. The two best pieces this week are Sara J. and Sarah K.,..with Sara J. being the overall winner and gets $25,000.
That leaves Lola, Michelle and Kymia in the bottom three. They each get a chance to defend their pieces before the judges discuss among themselves. They come back and China announces that Michelle's piece did not work and she will be going home.
