This week on The Next Iron Chef, the chefs gathered at the Padre Stadium in San Diego to create two ball park dishes.
The Chairman’s Challenge was all about transformation and how the chefs could create Iron Chef ball park dishes.
They had 15 minutes to gather what they needed from the food carts and snack bars to create two stadium classics with a twist.
Chef Zakarian and Chef Macmillan won advantage in last week’s challenge, so they got an additional five minutes of shopping and strategizing.
After the chefs finished racing around the stadium for ingredients, they finally got their cook on.
The chefs were given 60 minutes to create both dishes.
First up with the judges was Chef Guarnaschelli. Her first dish was Sausage and Peppers. Her second dish was Lemon Sherbet.
Chef Zakarian was up next. His first dish was Avacado One-Eyed Susan and Cajun Shrimp Toast. The second dish was Gazpacho with Mustard Crema.
Chef Macmillan’s first dish was Deconstructed Corn Dog and his second dish was Deconstructed Cheesesteak.
Chef Burrel’s first dish was Brisket Lettuce Wrap and her second dish was Chicken and Kielbasa Sloppy Joes.
Dish 1 for Chef Falkner was Remodeled Cheesesteak and Dish 2 was Remodeled Corn Dog.
Chef Chiarello’s first dish was Tilapia Polpette and Shrimp Cioppino. His second dish was Sausage and Peppers.
The judges are a little upset with Chef Samuelsson because his two dishes were more like four. His first dish was Shrimp Tostadas and Fish Taquitos and his second dish was a Pork Sandwich with Fries.
Dish 1 for Chef Hughes was a Shrimp and Pork Meatball Sandwich. Dish 2 was a Tilapia Corn Dog.
Chef Irvine created a new food for his first dish – Hot Burg – which is a hot dog and a burger combined. His second dish was a Deconstructed Fish Taco.
Back at the kitchen, the judges told Chef Guarnaschelli she had two perfect dishes and won the competition by a land slide.
The bottom two this week were Chef Irvine and Chef Chiarello. They had to face off in the Secret Ingredient Showdown. They were given 30 minutes to create a meal with the secret ingredient – peanuts!
Both chefs were a bit surprised to see peanuts of all things.
After an incredibly stressful showdown, time was up and the fate of Chef Irvine and Chef Chiarello awaited.
Chef Irvine revealed his dish to the judges first- Peanut Crusted Halibut and Peanut Hummus.
Chef Chiarello made Peanut Pesto Fettuccine with Tomato Salad.
It was a very difficult decision for the judges to make, but they chose to save Chef Chiarello and sent Chef Irvine packing.
