The Real World: San Diego - Episode 5 Recap

I just want you to know that Ashley and Zach are NOT in a relationship on The Real World: San Diego. They just hook up, spend all of their time and do everything together. I mean everything. From going to the gun range to getting their eyebrows waxed together. I repeat, they are not in a relationship.

Pride is coming up in San Diego and that's a very big deal to Sam and Frank. Sam is all about gay pride and standing up for who she is, while Frank has never been to any event like this before. It's important to both of them that all of their roommates participate in at least one event, but you know Zach isn't going to go within 500 miles of it... which means neither is Ashley.

Sam receives some bad news from home when she finds out that her friends were in a terrible car accident and one of them had to have part of their leg amputated. In order to cheer her up, the roomies suggest a night of bowling is in order but Zach refuses to stop playing ping pong with Nate and head out. When Sam threatens to throw the paddles off the roof, Zach threatens to "beat the gay out of her". Yeah, that's taking it too far.

Instead of telling Zach that he was way out of line and should perhaps apologize, especially given what Sam was going through, Ashley doesn't say a word.

As always, the roomies have to get a job and in seasons past, it usually consists of slacking off and complaining. I'd have no complaints about this one though, working at House of Blues. After going through an interview process (oh yeah, this one wasn't just a gimme), they are placed into various jobs: Sam and Nate as stagehands, Ashley and Alexandra as hostesses, Ashley as a bartender, Zach as a barback, and I'm not sure I know what Frank is doing...

Much to Zach's dismay, he finds out that House of Blues is working the Pride event so whether he likes it or not, he's going to face something that he has repeatedly said, freaks him out.

For the first time in Pride history, 300 active military members will march, which makes this event even more special than it already is to Sam and Frank. With roomies on such opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to the issue of homosexuality and gay pride, next week's episode is certainly going to be interesting.
