We may have seen the last of the challenges this season on Project Runway, but we certainly haven't seen the last of the runway. Only Anya, Viktor, Josh and Kimberly are left in the competition and every decision, cut and seam is going to count.
All four will be creating a collection, but only three will actually be competing in Fashion Week. They are given $9,000 and 5 weeks to create a ten-piece collection.
And with that, they're off! Tim will visit each designer once during the 5 weeks to check up on their progress. With less severe time constraints, the designers are really given the opportunity to show of their personal style and aesthetic better than ever before.
Tim's first stop is to see Kimberly in White Plains, Maryland. Her inspiration comes from her hometown of Brooklyn and the collection shows her transformation from urban girl to glamour girl. While he is satisfied with her construction thus far, Tim tells her to really "wow" the judges and to take a few more risks.
After the fashion consultation, Tim joins Kimberly with friends and family for a home-cooked meal. He learns all about her childhood and where she came from.
Next up on the list is Maraval, Trinidad for a visit with Anya. He joins her on a boat ride over to the main island where he meets her two brothers and hears a sad yet touching story about the loss of her third brother, Pilar.
Though she doesn't have any of her pieces put together, Tim is very impressed with her fabric and palette choices. However, her confusion in the shapes of her garments and lack of any solid concepts worries Tim, and he tells her to quickly rise to the challenge.
Tim's third stop brings him back to New York City for a consultation with Viktor. His collection theme is called "Urban Coast" and is partly inspired by Viktor's late brother. Tim is absolutely blown away by Viktor's collection and has a feeling he could have one of the coveted "Wow Collections."
Afterwards, Tim joins Viktor at his apartment to meet his boyfriend, David. They share a wonderful afternoon together and Tim leaves feeling satisfied and excited.
Last but not least, Tim heads uptown to Queens to visit Josh. He learns about his athletic past in Track & Field before going to view his collection. Josh calls it "loud, clear and colorful"-I think that may be the understatement of the year.
Tim thinks his collection is starting to look like a gimmick and is on the edge of looking cheap. After a horrible critique and the decision to discard one of the central fabrics, Josh is left with only two pieces to work with.
Before you know it, it's time for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The final four head to the luxurious penthouse suite of the Hudson Hotel, where they will be living and working for the home stretch of the competition. Tim joins them in popping a bottle of champagne before sending them off to the craziness of the week to follow.
The next day, they head over to their new workroom in the 1407 Broadway building. The judges have asked to see a 3-piece sample of what the designers have done so far. This will decide which three designers will move ahead to compete at the runway of all runways.
Anya and Josh both harsh remarks from Tim: it looks as though Anya has retreated back to her comfort zone and has nothing to show that will impress the judges. Tim tells Josh to bring cohesion to his three choices or the judges will just be confused.
Kimberly tries to center herself and find a common ground for her collection. Meanwhile, Viktor seems to be comfortable and confident in what he has to offer.
On the day of the mini-collection fashion show for the judges, the models come in for a fitting with the designers. While some decide to take risks in styling to entice the judges into seeing more, others opt to go with what they are certain will work.
After the routine well-edited montage of tears and reasons why they need to be at Fashion Week, it is time to put it all out on the line.
Viktor's collection goes out first and carries a stunning, on-the-edge vibe. And oh my goodness, that studded white jacket...WOW. Anya's collection is refined and shows a new attempt to merge newfound aesthetics.
Kimberly's mini-collection is certainly representative of her personal style, and I'm a big fan of the full-length black shimmer gown. Josh's three looks are an odd interpretation of being "fashion-forward," although I do really like the neo-prime little black dress.
The judges only like one of Anya's three pieces (a maxi-dress reflective of the black dress she made last week) and feel the other two look drab and unfinished. Michael Kors compliments Kimberly on creating a collection full of personal style, color and sex appeal.
Heidi likes Viktor's jacket so much she decides to try it on! His construction is impeccable, but the judges have a few issues with his styling decisions. Both Heidi and Michael like Josh's jacket and Nina compliments Josh on his styling. Their only concern is a concentrated focus for his entire collection.
The judges decide that the guys generally came out on top with their mini-collections and that it's going to come down between Kim and Anya. While they debate on who the final three will be, the four designers bond in the back room over their incredible journey together.
But without further adieu, it's time to find out who's going to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! The first designer making it through is Joshua, quickly followed by Viktor.
The third designer showing their collection at Fashion Week is...Kimberly!
But there's surprise twist! After a grueling wait, Heidi announces Anya will be joining the other three designers at Fashion Week! While the girls are happy to still be in the game together, Viktor and Josh are anything but happy.
Let the real games begin.
