Things get going on American Idol tonight with an announcement from Ryan Seacrest: last night, over 60 million votes came in for the Top 5 contestants. That's a record this season! Then, the Top 5 take the stage to sing "Happy Together", a 60s song by The Turtles.
A video is shown of the contestants' trip to Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay. They had to face off in a 10 minute cooking competition and produce the best omelet they could. We learn that none of them are ready for Hell's Kitchen, Top Chef, or Chopped anytime soon. Idol was definitely the show for them. Winner: Lauren! But the competition isn't over yet. More on that in a bit...
Lady Antebellum hits the stage to perform their new single, "Just A Kiss".
As we get into the results, Ryan lets us know that it's going to be a surprising elimination. Okay, so Jacob isn't the one leaving tonight. One by one, the contestants will be called down and put into groups. James is sent to one side of the stage, while Lauren is sent to the other.
Back to Hell's Kitchen for a blind taste test with Jacob taking on Lauren. Winner: Lauren - yet again! Jacob should win an award for Most Dramatic Reaction To Tofu.
A few weeks ago, Idol premiered Jennifer Lopez's new video, "On The Floor". Tonight, the judge took to the stage herself to perform it live for America. Watching it, I realize how brilliant J-Lo is. She joined Idol, her music career will take off again, and she's the "it" girl right now, having just landed the cover of People's Most Beautiful People issue. No stopping her!
It's time for some more results. Haley joins James and Jacob joins Lauren. Scotty in the middle. Ryan tells him he's safe then makes him predict which group is safe. Of course, McCreery isn't gonna go for that. Ryan walks him over to Haley and James and lets them know they're all safe.
So it comes down to Lauren and Jacob in the bottom group and she's bawling before the commercial break even hits. When they come back, Ryan has the final decision. The person leaving Idol tonight is... Jacob.
How was that surprising, Ryan? Just tryin' to throw us off?
Don't miss the Top 4 take the stage on American Idol, Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX.
