Top Chef Masters Season 3

This week's Quickfire Challenge is not for the faint of stomach. The chefs must create a five-star dish featuring delicious bugs. Phew.

The husband and wife team from Discovery Channel's Man, Woman, Wild are here to guest judge.

Suvir's religious beliefs prohibit him from harming animals, so he serves his dish with a mason jar of bugs and a torch for the diner to kill and cook that piece of the meal, if they so chose. This lands him in the bottom two, at the hands of Mrs. Wild. She looks a little embarrassed after Suvir explains why he did what he did. There's nothing like the hilarious look of someone that's been shamed. George's ginger soup is Mr. Wild's least favorite.

Hugh's tempura crickets with carrot puree and Mary Sue's sun choke salad with beetle vinaigrette are the favorites. Hugh wins immunity and $5,000 for Wholesome Wave. He's making quite a comeback after being initially ousted in Episode One.

For their Elimination Challenge, the chefs are responsible for a 10-course tasting dinner to raise money for their charities. Diners will select their favorite dishes and donate $100 bucks to that chef's charity. The overall winner will claim an additional $10,000, as usual.

There are mucho curveballs during this challenge. First, the water is shut off, rather hilariously. Then, Curtis delivers the news that service will start 30 minutes early. If that's not enough, there will no wait staff this time around, making the chefs responsible for basically everything.

Naomi is getting bossy, and no one is feeling it. Hugh has also stepped up as a leader, which is making things a bit awkward. Hugh gets pretty pissed at Naomi, but she doesn't appear phased by the encounter.

Alan Sytsma, editor of my favorite foodie blog (Grub Street) is guest judging this evening. Naomi and Suvir are called to Critic's Table first. They received the most votes from the diners. The critics opt for Naomi's celery velouté with salsa verde and lemon oil, and she claims the big win, along with $10,000 for Seed Savers Exchange.

Mary Sue, Celina and John are at the bottom of the pack this week. Mary Sue's ceviche was one-note and 'bland,' per Oseland. John's risotto was perceived as too safe, and Celina's puddin' wasn't rich enough. The texture was also off, and the result was a chalky misstep. Favorite part of judging? The hilarious "ew" face from Sytsma after discussing the sans wow risotto.

John is sent home, and I'm pretty shocked. I thought Celina was a goner. I'll found how he feels about being sent home this early when I chat with him later today.
