The Celebrity Apprentice 4

by David McAlpine

After Niki Taylor's exit last week on The Celebrity Apprentice, Star Jones was feeling pretty satisfied with herself, but only in a way where she got to make everyone else feel good for it. Because if she had owned up to the truth, which was basically that Dionne hadn't done her part in the task and was incredibly argumentative and should have been fired, well, that wouldn't have been all right, would it have been?

But it's time to forgive and forget and move on to the next task, which, this week, happens to be promoting a new videophone system by creating a commercial and presentation for it, showcasing the phone and the brand. Project managers: NeNe for the women, Lil Jon for the men. Now this is a great matchup.

On team ASAP, it was a disaster from the start when it came to managing the team. Dionne was blatantly unhelpful and LaToya was having issues with her eye, stemming from her LASIK surgery--apparently she could barely see.

Because of that, NeNe was forced to play it safe, knowing that she couldn't trust almost half her team to work. The women's commercial becomes about a girl who's living in Paris, using the videophone to talk to her parents back home. Simple, but it works, especially with the lack of help that NeNe seems to get on the task.

The men, on the other hand, take a more risque route: a man using the videophone to come out to his family, with his fiancé sitting right there. But just wait, it gets better: the men force Jose Canseco to not only star in the commercial, but to put on eyeliner.

Richard Hatch is the first one to say that Jose couldn't gay himself out of a floral tote, but Jose decides to go with it anyway and, if I do say so myself, it comes out pretty funny. Yes, the idea had the potential to go way wrong, but it ended up doing very well. It was Gary Busey instead who had the issues, since he couldn't a) remember his lines or b) put Busey Jr. away (which we later found out is nicknamed "Big Wednesday").

Both teams got the chance to screen their commercials and make a presentation about the commercial to an audience, who then voted on which one they liked better. It was a close result--47% to 53%--but the men managed to eke out another win, giving Lil Jon $20,000 for his charity and sending the women back to the boardroom again.

It was then that the fraud that is Dionne Warwick was exposed. Not only did NeNe point out how little she did, she made she Trump knew that she wanted to retire early, rather than spend the night in the edit bay. Dionne's defense: there was nothing she could do in the edit bay, so she'd rather sleep.

That's when NeNe broke down. You could tell that she was genuinely upset that she lost this task. She put everything she had into it and she wanted it bad--and you could tell that was frustrated that not everyone was 100% willing to help.

Eventually, Dionne even said she'd fire herself, but it was almost out of anger, as if this group of women dare turn the blade on her. Trump confronts her about it and she says she wants to stay. But it's too late, and Trump makes his move: Dionne Warwick, the legend and the lump, gets fired.

Out of the boardroom, Dionne off-handedly calls NeNe a "coward," even though Dionne clearly didn't want to be there. NeNe seems upset, but lets it roll off her back as the ice queen walks through the big double doors and into the waiting towncar.

The Celebrity Apprentice airs Sundays at 9/8c on NBC.
