From the very beginning of the season on American Idol, Brett Loewenstern stood out - in all the right ways. Not only did he have a unique singing voice and style, he treated everyone around him with respect and love. When Jacee Badaeux was kicked out of his group in Hollywood, Brett welcomed him with open arms, further helping him to win the judges over. He made it to the Top 24 but his rendition of "Light My Fire" didn't do it for America and he was eliminated without a shot at a wild card spot. Today, we spoke to Brett in an exclusive interview about his Idol experience.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You spoke a lot about being made fun of growing up. What made you have the confidence to try out for American Idol?
A. Brett: I've always been a performer. Starting in high school, I kind of stopped caring what people thought of me and built confidence.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You were nice to everyone around you, but especially kind to Jacee during Group Week. Did you think twice about letting him into your group?
A. Brett: Not at all. We needed a Day 2 person. We just brought him in.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How were you feeling when you went up against Colton and Jacee to get into the Top 24?
A. Brett: I was nervous and annoyed at the same time! You're there with two other people and two are going to go through and one person is going to go home.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The audition process is so stressful, with so many cuts along the way. How did you deal with it?
A. Brett: I pretty much went with it, if that made sense. I went with the motion of the ocean. It was stressful because it was like, "You have this round coming up," and "What if they cut me this time?" The hardest part is the first round. There are so many talented singers that they pass up!
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How do you feel about your Top 24 performance? Would you have done anything differently with it or chosen a different song if you could goback?
A. Brett: I really liked the energy of my performance and my vocals. If I would've changed the song, I would've sang a Mary J. Blige song. I feel that's more my outlet and type of music. I'd rather have sang that than The Doors, which I hardly know.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How were you feeling when you realized you weren't going to get to sing for a wild card spot?
A. Brett: I mean, I was disappointed but the first thing I thought was, "One door closes and another door opened." I could just be happy for the people that did get to sing. It was a little heartbreaking.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you want to do musically from here?
A. Brett: Recently, I started listening to Adele. I love her so much! I wanna be that kind of artist that expresses himself and is not molded into a cookie cutter type. I just wanna be Brett.
Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You've had a large response from fans of the show. What has that feedback been like?
A. Brett: It's been amazing. I feel that I'm finally being appreciated as a person. I've always been a good person that gets walked all over.
