Dancing With the Stars Season 11

By Kristal Bailey

Tonight is the 200th episode extravaganza! After 5 years of dancing celebrities, so many memorable moments have happened on this stage. This is the first season I’ve watched the show, so I’m excited for this look back. It’ll all be new to me!

To open the show, all the pros from the past 11 seasons dance to the song that was used for the first performance ever: Crazy in Love by Jay-Z and Beyonce.

For the night, the remaining stars will be split into teams, led by two previous Dancing with the Stars champions who are also Olympic Gold Medalists. They’ll do a team dance as well as their individual dance. The individual dance will be inspired by a fan favorite routine.

Team Kristi Yamaguchi:
Rick Fox
Cheryl Burke
Bristol Palin
Mark Ballas
Kyle Massey
Lacey Schwimmer

Team Apolo Ohno:
Kurt Warner
Anna Trebunskaya
Brandy
Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Jennifer Grey
Derek Hough

Team Kristi danced the Cha Cha and they were fantastic! They were all fun, on beat, in sync and just had such energy. Totally deserving of that standing ovation from the crowd. Len thought they were the underdogs before they took the stage, but they definitely just kicked this battle in to high gear. Rick was on fire, Bristol held her own, and everyone just looked great.

Score: Carrie Ann 8 Len 8 Bruno 8

Total: 24/30

Team Apolo danced the Cha Cha, incorporating Apolo’s “patty-cake” move from his routine. They were the favorites with this, between having Jennifer Grey and Brandy, the couples usually at the top of the leader board. All the judges absolutely loved it, especially the high level of choreography and how they were all able to maintain their technique.

Score: Carrie Ann 9 Len 9 Bruno 9

Total: 27/30

Favorites from seasons past are returning tonight to guest judge the routines that are modeled after their popular performances. Mel B, Emmitt Smith, Helio Castraneves, Gilles Martini, and Drew Lachey are back tonight to judge how well the current stars can reinterpret their best routines.

Celebrity: Kyle Massey
Professional Partner: Lacey Schwimmer

Dance: Paso Doble

Breakdown: Mel B, former Scary Spice, is back to see Kyle and Lacey perform her Paso Doble. Len thought that was their best dance yet. Mel B loved the poses and was blown away by his intensity. Carrie Ann thought they lived up to Mel’s performance by exhibiting the same power and strength.

Scores: Mel B: 10 Carrie Ann: 9 Len: 8 Bruno:  8

Total: 35/40 (59/70 on the night)

Celebrity: Kurt Warner
Professional Partner: Anna Trebunskaya

Dance: Tango

Breakdown: They went from the bottom of the leader board, with a very weak dance, to this routine full of passion and much improved footwork. Carrie Ann loved how Kurt brought his own character to it, made it suit him, rather than just tried to mimic Emmitt. Emmitt understands the neck misplacement (it’s a football thing!) and thought he looked like so dapper and suave.

Scores: Emmitt Smith: 10 Carrie Ann: 8 Len: 8 Bruno: 8

Total: 34/40 (61/70 on the night)

Celebrity: Bristol Palin
Professional Partner: Mark Ballas

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: Kelly Osbourne is back and looking amazing! She already looked great when she was on the show, but has really kept up with fitness and exercise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look better!

Now, on to the dance itself! Carrie Ann finds her so endearing, but she’s still slightly detached – even comparing her to a lost pigeon. Len thought they had great footwork and Bruno can see her natural ability and talent at movement. She just needs to learn how to connect to a character and to the audience more, which takes years to learn.

Scores: Kelly Osbourne: 9 Carrie Ann: 8 Len: 8 Bruno: 8

Total: 33/40 (57/70 on the night)

Celebrity: Rick Fox
Professional Partner: Cheryl Burke

Dance: Quickstep

Breakdown: Helio Castraneves, season 5 champion, is back to watch them perform his top 10 quickstep. Eliza Dushku, Rick Fox’s girlfriend, stopped by to try to get him to bring out the fun. I think Eliza’s visit totally helped! Bruno thought he had had more faces than Jim Carrey; it was his best dance by far.

Scores: Helio: 10 Carrie Ann: 9 Len: 9 Bruno: 9

Total: 37/40 (61/70 on the night)

Celebrity: Brandy
Professional Partner: Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Foxtrot

Breakdown: Gilles Marini is judging this Foxtrot, which will require sensuality and sexiness. Bruno thought that routine was “sizzling eroticism” on the floor. It was sexy, leaving Gilles with goose bumps. Len calls it the most fantastic Foxtrot on this stage, which to come from him of all judges means even more!

Scores: Gilles: 9 Carrie Ann: 9 Len: 10 Bruno: 9

Total: 37/40 (64/70 on the night)

Celebrity: Jennifer Grey
Professional Partner: Derek Hough

Dance: Tango

Breakdown: Jennifer Grey is really struggling physically this week. The toll of these weeks on the show is just making it harder for her push through.  Despite all the frustration, bruises, and fatigue, she was able to pull out a fantastic performance! Drew Lachey loved her musicality and thought she had beautiful lines. If she can hold out, she has a real shot at the title. Bruno compared her to a Phoenix, rising from the ashes more splendid than ever.

Scores: Drew Lachey: 10 Carrie Ann: 9 Len: 9 Bruno: 9

Total: 37/40 (64/70 on the night)

Brand and Jennifer Grey are at the top of the pack again! All the performances were fantastic, among the best of the season for every couple.

Tune in to the live Elimination show tomorrow on ABC at 9/8 c.
