Last night, The Challenge: Cutthroat got underway on MTV with 30 fan favorites (well, 29 and Camila... who's Camila?) competing for over $500,000 in cash and prizes. Upon arriving in the Czeck Republic, the players are asked to race to the Gulag, which looks like a World War II prison/torture chamber. It's also where these kids will be battling each week to stay in the game. Vinny, Abram, and Tyler sprinted their way there and were the first to arrive.

 

Camila, Emilee, and Shauvon were the slowest and were then rewarded with the title of team captains! They'll be choosing their teams for the entire season. That's power right there. Camila chooses Dunbar, Tori, Brad, Paula, Tyler, Melinda, Chet, Mandy, and Brandon. Shauvon goes with Vinny, Laurel, Abram, Sarah, Dan, Ayiiia, Luke, Cara Maria, and JD. Emilee takes Johnny, Jenn, Derrick, Emily, Ty, Theresa, Derek, Katie, and Eric.

 

After teams are picked, everyone heads to their house for the season, which is an awesome, giant mansion. As you might expect, alcohol is consumed and a fight almost breaks out between Laurel and Shauvon who are teammates!

 

Everyone smartly heads to bed because their first challenge the next morning is so complicated, I'm not even sure I can explain it to you properly. Teams needed to put together a puzzle that was multi-layered and the diagrams for those puzzles were in lockboxes. In order to get the combinations to open the boxes, two team members at a time had to run into a gas chamber and try to grab the correct combinations of numbers and letters.... which are written on two opposing walls and apparently, very tough to decipher.

 

The gas is painful for everyone. People are gagging, choking, and crying while trying to get the codes. The red team makes pretty quick work of their lockboxes and are the first to get the diagrams and work on the puzzle but things quickly even up. However, thanks to Abram's newfound calmness and leadership abilities, the gray team is able to pull off the first win this season.

 

Back at the mansion, the gray team is treated to a delicious, victory feast while the losing teams nominate one guy and one girl to head into the Gulag. In a twist this season, the votes are secret which means that people can be even more underhanded and sneaky than usual. TJ delivers the news that Brandon and Derek will face off in the Gulag as will Emilee and Camila.

 

That night, another drunken fight breaks out between Theresa and Camila because the first called the latter a "klepto". These fights are so dumb and the girls are ugly when they're drunk! And is anyone else surprised that the guys have been keeping their cool so far? Nobody is throwing punches just yet.

 

In the first Gulag, players must hold on to a rope and yank it away from the other one and as you might expect, things get physical fast! Brandon makes quick work of Derek, beating him 5-0. In the girls' round, Camila dominates Emilee, sending her home.  So it's the end of the road for the RW: Cancun members and the blue team took a hit, now down two teammates.
