Bachelor Pad

by David McAlpine

Last night on Bachelor Pad, it was ladies' night since not one but three women would be headed home this week. When the news broke, the tears flowed and the women started having a meltdown as the pressure mounted to get to the final episode. But, somehow, Tenley is more concerned about her budding relationship with "put your game face on" Kiptyn.

For this week's competition, it's yet another hookup-with-random-people game, but definitely an oldie that brings back memories for everyone: spin the bottle! But it's not just any game of Spin the Bottle, the bottle only determines the order in which the men pick their partner. Yes, that's right, it's going to be guy/girl partnerships for the rest of the game and, suddenly, Ashley, Gwen and Nikki are all screwed

So, surprise, surprise, Kiptyn is up first and picks Tenley (even though Nikki saved him the first week), Kovacs picks Elizabeth "got a screw loose" Kitt (proving to Elizabeth that she can manipulate him any way she wants), Jesse B. chooses Peyton (in one of the most uncomfortable kisses we've seen on this show) and Dave chooses Natalie. Out go Gwen, Ashley and Nikki and suddenly, this is a four-pair game.

Not too much time to prep, though, because the next competition is around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the new pairs than with a Newlywed Game-style challenge? Everyone seems to be getting along well except Peyton and Jesse B., since Peyton thinks Jesse is basically stupid.

But that's not the last competition of the evening: there's also a game of water balloon catch. Could we be getting any more old school this episode? Where's Mark Burnett to add in some mud and fire, here? Natalie hits the nail on the head: "I can't believe that me winning a quarter-million dollars relies on whether I do or do not catch a water balloon." I know fifth graders who play this game for 5 dollars, so this seems a little unfair.

Of course, with his poor coordination, Jesse and Peyton are out first. Kiptyn and Tenley are next, leaving Dave and Natalie and Kovacs and Elizabeth. After more rounds, Dave and Natalie finally emerge victorious (and safe) this week, and Natalie is even more satisfied with her partner.

Since Dave/Natalie, Kovacs/Elizabeth and Kiptyn/Tenley have pretty much been together since the beginning, it seems like the oddball couple of Jesse B. and Peyton are next up to leave. But the green starts to set in and Natalie sees the Kovacs and Elizabeth (the "actual couple") are a huge threat, especially with Jesse B. failing to excel at anything needing fine motor skills.

Dave and Natalie head out on their date (after Kovacs and Elizabeth get hot and heavy in a mysteriously-appearing Lamborghini) and Natalie makes it her mission to convince Dave the dating duo need to leave. But the conversation turns serious when they talk about Dave's dad and the night ends with Natalie comforting Dave after he relives some sad moments in his life.

Natalie subtly diverts the conversation back to Kovacs and Elizabeth, but Dave won't allow it because he's been in it with Kovacs since day one. Speaking of those two, they find their way into the Fantasy Suite (which I'm sure you could find one of the producers twirling the key around their finger) and they approach the topic of sex. Kovacs offers up getting naked, but Elizabeth won't have any "railing," she wants to make love. Bing bang boom, the couple finally does it. Ew.

Now Natalie is really onto them and she figures that if she can't convince Dave, maybe she can do it her own way. So, Natalie talks to Peyton and tells her to talk to Tenley about how dangerous Kovacs and Elizabeth are. Let's be honest here, Tenley really hasn't made any smart decisions up to this point--do you really think she's going to start now?

Come elimination time, we find out everyone votes individually and Kovacs knows he might be screwed. He, Elizabeth and Dave each vote for Peyton and Jesse B. in hopes that they'll be going home. Natalie and Tenley make a deal to go after Elizabeth and Kovacs, hoping to send the power couple home instead. Theoretically, if Kiptyn had kept Elizabeth and Dave, it would have been a tie, but instead Peyton and Jesse B. go home, yet again showing how strategy fails in the Bachelor mansion.

Tune in to next week's episode of Bachelor Pad to see who takes home the $250,000 grand prize--next Monday at 8/7c on ABC!
