The Real World: New Orleans

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on The Real World: DC, Jemmy hit rock bottom but in order to tell this story, we have to start from the beginning. The roomies head to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in different ways. Ryan headed to the soup kitchen to volunteer while most of the others did what many people do - drink themselves into oblivion. McKenzie disappeared for most of the day and night with a random creeper

while Jemmy and Knight drank beer and did shots at a bar.

Upon arriving home in a cab, Jemmye tumbled out onto the street and could barely get herself up the stairs, much to Knight's amusement. Things took a turn for the worse inside, though, as Jemmy spiraled out of control, breaking things, ripping the phone out of the wall, falling on the floor repeatedly, crying hysterically, and insisting that everyone leave her alone. She revealed that she was having flashbacks to the abuse she faced and decided she needed to go home. Ashlee and Sahar chased her as she went running down the street barefoot, saying she needed to go to the airport, and Eric had to carry her back to the house.

The only person she would listen to is Knight, who called her out on her behavior and insisted that she look into getting help. She claims that she can't do it without him but he tries to get her to cut the cord and face this herself. However, he does offer to support her as she goes through the healing process, even saying he will go with her to a counseling session at the domestic violence shelter and wait for her.

Of course, the morning of the meeting, Jemmye is understandably nervous and even debates skipping it altogether but Knight convinces her that she's strong enough to face and conquer this. Yes, there are times that Knight can be a jerk but he showed his true self and heart in this episode. Jemmye decides to go and opens up about what she dealt with and experienced - things that you would never wish on your worst enemy. She agrees to see the counselor once a week and is committed to overcoming this and moving on with her life.

Back at the house, Jemmye decides to call her mother and reveal the secret of her abuse, who doesn't sound overly upset or emotional upon hearing it. It's a little weird. The roommates all go to Jemmye, offering her the hugs, love, and support she's going to need as she takes one huge step forward.
