So You Think You Can Dance Season 7

by Danae Young

This week on So You Think You Can Dance, four contestants remain in the competition.

From California all the way to New York, the top four compete for the final three spots in next week’s finale.

The guest judge this week was choreographer Tyce Diorio.

Tonight, each contestant performed three times, as usual. However, this week they performed once as a group and two other times with all-stars.

Dancers: Adechike, Lauren, Kent and Robert
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Song: “The Crapshooter’s Dance” by Guys and Dolls (50th Anniversary cast recording)
The dance was super playful and fun to watch. They all looked great out there.

Dancers: Lauren and Pasha
Style: Tango
Choreographer: Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo
Song: “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla
They were so quite on stage, but managed to talk with their eyes and their seductive movements. The dance was very steamy and sexual. There were some spectacular lifts as well. Lauren showed a lot of passion and intensity in the routine.

Dancers: Adechike and Lauren
Style: African Jazz
Choreographer: Sean Cheesman
Song: “The Path” by Ralph MacDonald
The storyline for the routine was the path to freedom. It was supposed to be a sort of metaphor for Adechike’s journey on the show. In fact, the song title almost gives the storyline away. This was a very entertaining dance with great music. Adechike is an amazing dancer, no doubt about it, but he still needs to loosen up a little more on stage and really get into it.

Dancers: Robert and Anya
Style: Viennese Waltz
Choreographer: Jonathan Roberts
Song: “Lost” by Anouk
With all of his ballroom dance experience on the show, Robert thought this one was the easiest. The dance was very soft and beautiful. Robert was so gentle and yet masculine in the routine and he did an outstanding job.

Dancers: Kent and Courtney
Style: Disco
Choreographer: Doriana Sanchez
Song: “When Love Takes Over” by David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland
Kent doesn’t seem to be very well rehearsed in Disco dancing, let alone did he know which decade the style is from. There was a huge Disco ball hanging over the stage which was a great touch. Kent did a crazy lift while spinning at a ridiculous speed. It was crazy!

Dancers: Lauren and Ade
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Sean Cheesman
Song: “Hide U (John Creamer and Stephanie K Remix)” by Kosheen
Lauren was a deadly black widow trying to lure her prey, in this case, Ade. There was one insane lift that looked really cool. Lauren looked like a very strong woman up there on stage and she owned it. For being the last girl, standing, she has really done great.

Dancers: Adechike and Kathryn
Style: Combination of styles
Choreographer: Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rohden
Song: “Fearless Love” by Melissa Etheridge
The dance really was amazing. Adechike had so much energy and you could tell how much he enjoyed dancing that routine. The judges keep telling him he needs more, but I think he did a great job in this dance. He has grown so much.

Dancers: Robert and Dominic
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographer: Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo
Song: “Scars” by Basement Jaxx feat. Kelis, Meleka and Chipmunk
The boys had somewhat creepy clown costumes on. This was a great performance. Robert did an awesome job of being a creepy clown gone gangsta. He totally owned this routine.

Dancers: Kent and Neil
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Travis Wall
Song: “How It Ends” by DeVotchKa
The story of the two boys being best friends was great for this routine. It was shown flawlessly without a doubt. This performance was pure excellence and brought Judge Mia to tears. Kent got nothing but great reviews from the judges and made them nearly speechless.
