The Wolf’s Lair - Ketryzn, Poland
Built in 1940, The Wolf’s Lair served as Hitler’s command post during World War II.
Composed of 50 huge stone, concrete, and metal bunkers, it is also the place where a
famous bombing assassination attempt of Hitler, called Operation Valkyrie, was
attempted. Hitler survived, but others were not so lucky. Most of the bunkers lay in
ruin, eventually destroyed by the “good guys” at the end of the war. A hotel which used
to house Hitler’s guards is now serves as an inn for tourists but its’ guests seem to
encounter many strange occurrences. People often hear whispers and feel the presence of
something near them. One lady was awoken in the middle of the night to someone learning
over her and speaking German into her ear. People believe they hear footsteps,
disembodied voices, and papers being shuffled. One visitor believed they might have
taken a picture of a ghost. The GHI team also picked an interesting night to
investigate this location, Hitler’s Birthday.
Team leader Robb Demarest and Brandy Green started out in the Hotel and immediately
started an EVP session. They seemed to continue to get answer to their questions using
the activity of the EMF light detector. Whenever they would ask a question or try and
make contact, the lights of the detector went off. They believed that they were making
contact with a woman. They tried to continue contact to find out more information but
they believed the spirit had run out of energy, sounds funny but it is believed that
spirits do draw on whatever energy is available to try and manifest itself or
communicate. Many photos where taken during the exchange so maybe something would show
up later.
Barry Fitzgerald and Paul Bradford spent some time in one of the bunkers and it wasn’t
long before Barry believed he was seeing something in the woods but nothing came of it
and they headed to the next bunker. Brandy and Robb headed to bunker #17 which held the
higher staff members and thought they may have heard a voice but could not get any
additional contact.
Ashley Godwin and, investigator in training Susan Slaughter, drew the short straw and
went to Hitler’s main bunker, bunker #13, to investigate. As they were trying to entice
Hitler or some other entity to show itself, Susan heard some footsteps nearby and took a
photo which revealed in oddly placed light ball in the directionof the footsteps. The
team would later conclude that they couldn’t say it was more than a dust particle
reflecting light.
Barry and Paul loaded up their equipment and put it all out in the area of bunker #13,
and tried what is called “The Singapore Theory”, in which you try and create a similar
environment that the spirits might recognized. They placed some candles and played some
music that would have represented that of the 1940’s. Both Paul and Barry started to
have that feeling that something was watching them on when Paul looked into the Bunker
he saw something move. Barry continued trying to make contact but nothing obvious
occurred and they hoped the audio or video evidence would show something.
Ashley and Susan headed to bunker #3, the location of Operation Valkyrie. I thought
this might be a hot zone for activity but nothing interesting happened.
Brandy and Robb headed to bunker #6 which housed some of the soldiers, as well as Hitler
for some time, and Brandy asked Robb “What did you say?” Robb didn’t say anything so it
very well could have been a disembodied voice coming from the bunker. Then Robb heard
someone having a conversation. Nothing was picked up on audio during the review.
The team stayed in the hotel for the night and had all equipment running. Usually
something interesting gets picked up during the night but no evidence was found.
Paul asked a question; “Do you speak English” while in Hitler’s bunker and his response
was “Yes!” Another voice found in an audio recorder in the hotel stated “Where is
Hitler?” This could have been the voice of one of Hitler’s more famous girlfriends to
visit the bunkers. One of the better pieces of evidence came from the team’s full
spectrum video recorder which showed an image of someone standing in the corner. The
team felt they had enough personal experiences and actual evidence to call The Wolf’s
Lair haunted.
