Shear Genius Season 3

by Chandra Clewley

Tonight’s Shear Genius starts with flowers. Harry Josh guest stars with the Short Cut challenge which is to incorporate flowers into hairstyles as if the flowers were a part of the models hair.

Adee says the only time he’s bought flowers is when he has cheated on the Mrs. And even then his assistant bought them for him. April, on the other hand, feels confident and is excited to explore the challenge. They have two hours.

Brig wants cornrows, extensions, white flowers and synthetic hair. Brian decides to use facial mud mask on his models hair. Matthew gives Adee advice on warming up his models hair and Janine feels sorry for Adee as she says “There comes a point where you are in your career and you are afraid to look back. It sucks because he is so talented.” Jon is creating flowers out of synthetic pieces and iris’s.

At the judges table, Matthews finished product has too many flowers, , April’s goes over well with the judges for the texture and matching between the models eyes and the flowers but Matthew says that he “hated it, it looks all Muppet and weird.” Amy’s is good and Harry Josh liked the “Philip Treacy-like” top of the hairdo. Jon’s is too costumey. Janine’s is too “drag queen”. Brig’s looks like a “cocker spaniel”. The bottom two are Adee and Jon. The top two are April and Brian with Brian taking the win and an advantage in the next challenge, which means he will pick the models for the stylists.

For the elimination challenge, all of the stylists are asked to dress in formal wear. They show up to a traditional Indian wedding, with 400 guests. The challenge is to turn the bridesmaids wedding ceremony hairstyles into something completely different for the reception. The guest judge is formerly ousted Shear Genius alum Tabatha Coffey.  The team has 1 ½ hours to go and the winner gets immunity.

Brian picks the models, and because he is friends with Adee, he lets him wink toward the model he wants. Once all of the models are assigned, the team sits down to figure out what they are going to do. It turns out that Adee made a terrible decision by picking his model. She doesn’t want curl, extensions or anything for that matter. No hairspray, no combs, no pins. B-O-R-I-N-G. Poor Adee!! Matthew even thinks “Give the guy a break!” But it isn’t only Adee. Brig has a lame bridesmaid that only wants her hair flat ironed. Amy’s girl is shy, but doesn’t want anything drastic.

During the judgment, April and Matthew are safe. Jonathan is disappointed in Adee’s styling and says he should have shown her something and then offered to take it out if she hated it. Amy’s looks like a jellyfish. No one likes Brig’s half straight flat iron job, including Tabatha. The two of them get into it when Tabatha challenges that Brig gave up.

At the end of the day, Brian wins this challenge too and Adee is eliminated. Bad luck, Adee!!!
