The Bachelor: On The Wings of Love

by David McAlpine

Last time on The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love, Jake flew across the country visiting the hometowns of the final four ladies: Ali, Gia, Tenley and Vienna. Despite Ali telling Jake she was over Vienna being in the competition, drama ensued anyway when Ali had to pick between Jake and her job. In the end, Jake couldn't give a solid answer whether or not he'd pick her, so she decided to walk out.

Tonight, Jake gets to take exotic, steamy dates with the three remaining suitors in an attempt to test their sexual and physical chemistry. This season, they visit the island of St. Lucia, where Jake recounts his experiences with Gia, Tenley and Vienna. He had Gia pegged as the really pretty girl, but then later realized she had depth. He thought Tenley was too good to be true, but then nixed that idea when he found out she had been marred by her ex. And, although he doesn't outright say it, he thought Vienna was a straight up whore, but now he things she's both amazing and that he and her can "mature together." Take a look at those three and tell me which one seems to stand out as odd to you--I really don't think it's hard.

Of course, the memory of Ali lingers in the air as Jake walks down the beach. I mean, let's be honest, if I were Gia I'd be jumping for joy because Ali just gave me a free pass in this game. Granted, it's probably for only one more week, but that one week is getting me a free trip to St. Lucia!

Cut to none other than the lamenting Ali, who's sitting in a hotel room, pining over the loss of her beloved Jake because of her job. She can't even work because she misses him so much! So, like the shocking twist that we haven't seen before (yeah, right), Ali decides she's going to go back and fight for Jake.

But first, he gets to spend some quality time with Gia. The get to shop in a local market, have some fun times with the local bongo player and street musicians and Jake discovers Gia's soft side. He appreciates the fact that she can be high-maintenance and still appreciate people who aren't well off, apparently. By the end of the day, they're in the pool making out, per Bachelor style. The night at dinner, Jake says he wants to protect Gia, and he thinks their dreams are intertwined. Gia can't get enough of this, even if she knows that she's only here because Ali quit. And she can't say yes fast enough to the Fantasy Suite card, after which making out, rose petals and noises ensue.

THe next day, Jake meets up with Tenley and they hop in a helicopter, where Tenley complains about not letting herself fall in love. I mean, I get your ex hurt you, but how long can you say you're hung up on this on national television? There's only so much we can take, Tenley. So much.

The two sit down for a picnic where Tenley starts asking about how things will be after the show is over, and Jake tries to assure her it will be just like they are now. He even woos her with free flights! And she's eating it up, straight through to the next "motion in the ocean" scene. Now, we all know that Tenley and the Fantasy Suite have to open up some kind of drama (similar to Ed's scene last season, though much less funny), and she's afraid she won't be able to open up. It doesn't seem to take her long to change her mind, though, and they spend the night together anyway.

Vienna is the last one up for her date and it's already too much PDA with these two. Honestly, it's like one giant Fantasy Suite, there's no surprise there. The two get to ride in the actual ship used in "Pirates of the Caribbean," where they get to see lots of pirate-like things. Then they go swimming and makeup, which is just typical by this point. Jake chooses this point to wonder if his relationship to Vienna is purely physical (the answer: yes), so he asks her some deep questions over dinner. No matter how boring her answers are, Jake takes them as a great response, so it's clear she's gotten way too far into his head. At least, until he flat out tells her he's falling to the other two girls, too.

Just like it's on cue, Vienna starts crying, proclaiming her love to Jake. Then they head to the Fantasy Suite where I'm sure she gets her own leg up on the other two girls (because, let's be honest--in that department, she wins by a landslide).

While Jake is preparing for the rose ceremony, his phone rings and, on the other end is Ali, who tells him she wants another chance. I guess ABC couldn't afford to fly her out to St. Lucia, because she's stuck in a kitchen somewhere. Jake doesn't even hesitate, either, he shuts her down--possibly right into the next season of The Bachelorette! Is anyone else with me on this one?

Before he hands out the roses, Jake gets to see videos that the fianl three ladies made him as to why he should keep them until the final night. Tenley's video is really cute, Vienna's is very confident and forward, while Gia's is more shy and nervous. Foreshadowing? I think so.

So, surprise, the final two roses go to Tenley and Vienna. Plus, since Gia is the only one going home, she gets to spend some one-on-one time with Jake so he can tell her exactly why he didn't keep her! Great, huh? His lame excuse is that he likes her, but his feelings for Tenley and Vienna are stronger. Gia is graceful in her rejection and wishes him good luck, proving that the last bit of class may have exited the game at this point.

Tune in next week for the "Women Tell All" special where we get to find out what really happened behind the doors of the mansion, Monday on ABC at 9/8c!
