San Lucas Prison – San Lucas Island, Costa Rica

What a perfect night for the team to be investigating the San Lucas Prison.  An ugly rain storm, including lightning and thunder, makes the forgotten in time prison even creepier.  Built in 1862, the prison is said to be the Cost Rican equivalent to San Francisco’s Alcatraz.  Considered to be a cruel and unusual place to serve your time, a occupants life expectancy was 5 years.  You weren’t there to be rehabilitated.  You were sent there to be tortured.  A body sized hole in the ground led to an underground area of solitary confinement and few made it out alive.   Prisoners were held in large cells so fights to the death were common.  In addition to prisoners being killed, a priest and nurse were said to have been murdered by prisoners who were able to get themselves just free enough to extend their sentence.  Activity has been seen and heard in the prison, slaughter house, and engine room where the power supply for the prison was generated.  Many caretakers believe the engine room still runs at various times and apparitions have

been seen standing near the main generator.

Team lead Robb Demarest and Barry Fitzgerald started the investigation in the prison itself.  Barry, as usual, saw something that he couldn’t explain except maybe that it was a ghost pig.  Both Robb and Barry heard what they thought was a woman sobbing.  Of course, there was no woman around.

Paul Bradford and Brandy Green headed up to the engine room and immediately started a EVP session.  Paul and Brandy both believed they felt some sort of presence and that was followed by Brandy believing she heard some footsteps approach here.  Paul was next two hear a couple voices so hopefully something would show up on the audio.

Barry and Ashley Godwin investigated the outside area of the prison cells called the circle.  In the middle of the circle was the hole in the ground which was used for solitary confinement.  Ashley believed she heard some movement and then shortly after this a woman’s voice, something similar to what Robb heard earlier.

Robb and Joe Chin tried to communicate with the nurse who was murdered by the prisoners.   At one point they believed they heard someone say “Psst” like something was trying to get their attention.  Not long after this Robb believed he saw a white streak pass in front of him.  Robb sent Paul and Brandy into the area to see if they could continue to get responses.  Brandy believed she heard a woman’s voice and tried to continue to make contact but nothing more came out of the session.

Robb and Joe headed to the slaughter house where animals to be used as food were, well, slaughtered.  The door to the building was locked but started to move when they asked if somebody could open the door and help them get in.  No additional contact was made.  They then headed to what was used as the church and tried to get in touch with the priest that was said to have been killed there.  As Robb was asking questions Joe believed he heard somebody whisper and then a loud noise followed.  Nothing else happened to them while in the chapel.

The analysis of the evidence did uncover a couple of good EVP’s.  Robb made a statement saying “this would be a good time to do an EVP session” to which the response was “Yeah.”  A similar voice saying “Yeah”was heard in response to a question that Ashley had asked as well.  A final EVP might have been coming from a ghost prisoner asking for “Agua” or water, something being reported being heard by a few local workers.  One last piece of evidence came from an empty cell where a camera was set up where a loud sound was heard.  Not too much, there but the noise was strange and more than likely not from the area around the cell.  Not sure if you could call the prison haunted, but it was interesting.
