Samuel Mudd House - Waldorf, Maryland

After he assassinated President Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth headed to the Mudd house to get care from Doctor Samuel Mudd. Dr. Mudd spent four years in prison as a co-conspirator for Lincolns death as a result.  Mudd was later pardoned but the negative karma of the house lives on. The house was built in the 1830’s and still sits in a very rural area, sort of lost in time.  Civil War actors and the current residents have talked about items moving around or being pushed around, female voices, as well as, a figure of a female said to be Mrs. Mudd.  One tragic event was that of one of the young sons, 8 months old, that fell and broke his neck in his bedroom.  Needless to say the paranormal activity in the bedroom is rampant.

TAPS co-founders Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes started in the bedroom where the child died of a broken neck and when they began asking questions one of their cameras turned off and they began experiencing some static electricity or some pocket of humid air.   Not long after this moment, something grabbed Grants hand.  Their K2 detector was pretty quite during these episodes so it’s hard to say what they were experiencing.  Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves spent their investigation time in the dining area where a rocking chair has said to rock by itself.  They didn’t come away with any obvious signs of communication so they would have to rely on the EVP for evidence. Kris Williams and Amy Bruni, while up in the attic, tried very hard to instigate the spirits calling out loud that “Dr. Mudd” was guilty of his crimes of working with Booth to plan the execution of the President.  Based on the title of this show I have to guess the EVP session will reveal something pretty interesting.  While Grant and Jason were investigating outside the house they caught a disturbing human thermal image pass by them.  Kris and Amy did their own analysis of the child’s room that Grant and Jason spent time in earlier.  Nothing came across their path…or did it?

When they looked back at the evidence the thermal image Jason and Grant caught outside around the house definitely showed what looked like a woman with a bonnet or hood run in front of them but no one else was outside but them and their camera man.    Jason and Grant did catch an EVP saying “I am not guilty.”  Could that be the voice of Dr. Mudd?  The evidence they did get was pretty strong and they felt that the Mudd house was haunted.  Maybe the first time they called a place haunted with limited personal experiences.

Edgewood Plantation – Charles City, Virginia

Former Presidents William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison called this old plantation home.  Built in 1849 this house was used as a signal post for the Confederate army at one point during the civil war.  People have seen what seem to be civil war soldiers, as well as, a woman named Lizzie who people claimed died of a broken heart when her husband did not come back from war.  People who have stayed at the house claim having conversations with various soldiers.  Could these conversations have happened after smoking some whacky plantation tobacco?

Jason and Grant started going through the house doing a general sweep.  Their K2 detector became active and then stopped only to once again become active after they were calling for Lizzie to communicate with them.  Tango and Steve did some good debunking of a attic door, used to hide soldiers, they people claim opens and closes itself.  They were able to track it to the pressure of the door of the room opening and closing as people came and went.  Jason and Grant headed to the cottage on the property where several people have said they have seen soldiers and had conversations but could not strike up any communication with paranormal beings.  Overall there were no personal experiences so the recorded evidence would have to be heavy to convince the crew that the plantation was haunted.

The team didn’t have much to talk about with the client and caretaker of the plantation outside of their high electromagnetic field readings they got early in the investigation.  Kris Williams did do some research at the local library and found some information about a soldier named Erin Young, who is said to be the soldier that had a conversation with a woman in the cottage.  The team could not call the plantation haunted but did leave the option open for a future investigation.
