The Real Housewives of New Jersey

by Chandra Clewley

The Real Housewives of New Jersey ended with a bang, and a crash, and some broken dishes last Tuesday evening. Tonight, we delved further into the uncomfortable, awkward, tense dinner party that Teresa hosted.

We find ourselves back at the table at Lu Nello, with air so thick you can cut a knife through it.   Danielle felt like she was walking into a lions den at the party and said if she didn’t find her seat quickly her knees would buckle.  All the women can feel the tension and they all seemed to know that this confrontation was coming. Everyone seems to be polite to Danielle, as if they have to be overly nice to her to placate her.  When Danielle pulls the book out and places it on the table, the dinner party seems to uncomfortably ignore it, as if it is the big elephant in the room no one wants to acknowledge.

As the subject comes up, the families make a point about getting the younger children out of the room…even though Teresa was just sharing the inner most details and intimacies of her sex life with Joe to everyone within ear shot. I guess “descriptive sex life” talk is okay, vs. Danielle clearing the air?

Finally, Danielle starts to go after Dina; she is convinced that Dina was the one that passed the book around. Caroline is insistent that it was her.  Jacqueline seems to think that Caroline and Dina were equally guilty, and it is so refreshing as a viewer to finally see Jacqueline stand up for something.  She feels that Danielle has no one there to defend her, so she stands up to Dina and Caroline.

And then, the infamous “table flip”. What it seems to come down to, in my opinion, after Bravo graciously replays it for us 4 or 5 times, is that Teresa, who has had a bit too much to drink, hits her breaking point. Danielle snaps at her to pay attention, when Teresa asks a question. Teresa hasn’t really spoken during the confrontation, so it could be that she just wanted in on the fight.  Although, Teresa has felt slighted and insulted by Danielle before, so this could just be her lashing out. Either way, Teresa was inebriated.  She blames it on being Italian, and you have to love Danielle for coming back with “We are all Italian!”

Caroline’s son Christopher says it best “If you are not familiar with the table flip, you are probably not from New Jersey.”   At the end, Danielle still believes that it was Dina that showed the book, and that Caroline is covering for her baby sister. Dina and Caroline are adamant that Caroline is the one that exposed Danielle.

I guess the only question left after this Directors Cut is who really won the fight at the Last Supper?
