I’m still trying to figure out how America and I are not on the same page this season on American Idol. After last night’s performance episode, in which the contestants could sing any popular song ever in the history of music, it seemed pretty clear who needed to be in the bottom three: Anoop, Megan, and Scott. As usual, I ended up being 2 for 3 with my picks. Yes, Anoop and Megan landed in the bottom again, as they should, but replacing my prediction of Scott was Miss Allison Iraheta. Perhaps it was the outfit.
The night got started with an absolutely ridiculous performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” by the Top 9. My boyfriend pointed out that Simon is constantly complaining that the contestants are “too karaoke”, yet Journey is one of the most oversung karaoke songs of all time. Good point… good point. David Cook performed as well and was presented with a special plaque by Clive Davis, to celebrate his debut album going platinum. Somewhere, Taylor Hicks is crying alone in a bathroom. That guy can barely give away tickets to one of his concerts.
At long last, it was time for the results. Most of you can feel free to DVR the elimination episodes then last forward to the last 10 minutes. That’s when things get interesting anyway. However, had you done that, you would’ve missed Megan’s bipolar behavior throughout the episode and that was well worth sitting through the entire hour. One minute she was waving her arms around like a madwoman, when she was named in the bottom three, and then crying while being comforted by her fellow contestants after she got booted off. The judges couldn’t even muster up the strength to pretend to care that she was going home or that they would even consider saving her.
For Megan, it’s the end of the line. I have to say: I kind of feel bad for her. She got her butt handed to her from the minute she hit the Top 13. The very reason the judges picked her is because she brought something unique to the table but Idol really wasn’t the correct launching pad for her career. She’s actually lucky she made it as far as she did and she does get something out of it: the national tour. Moving on…
