Steve and Linda Cole from The Amazing Race

On last night’s episode of The Amazing Race, Steve and Linda plagued with bad luck when Linda got lost on a race down a mountain in Germany.  Missing the route markers cost the team precious team and put them at the bottom of the pack in a race through Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.  Though, at the very end, they were able to get close to another team, it was not enough to keep them in the race and they were eliminated.  Today, Steve and Linda spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about their experience on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Well, first of all, I’m sorry to see that the two of you were eliminated from the race so early.
A. Steve: We were, too!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you guys want to try out for The Amazing Race?
A. Steve: We’ve been fans season 1 and basically, that was it.  You watch and you say, “I can do that” or “I wouldn’t have made that mistake.”  That’s what motivated us.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you ever think that you and Steve would get picked for the show and end up on television?
A. Linda: Not at all!  Steve said, “Let’s make a video” and I said, “There’s no way we’re getting picked.”  At the time, I was 35 pounds heavier, I couldn’t swim, and I had a fear of heights.  I started working out and Steve taught me to swim and he helped me get over my fear of heights?
A. Steve: I actually tried out for a season of Survivor and made it to the semi-finals.  It was my first video and I got called.  I sent in a video the The Amazing Race about 5 years ago but it wasn’t thought out and it was bad.  I didn’t take the time and you only have 3 minutes to tell them who you are so this time, we really thought it out.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Linda, you mentioned your fear of heights.  How did you react to these challenges in the first two episodes, from the bungee jump to the cable car ride up the mountain?
A. Linda: I was a little uncomfortable with the cable car but I was overcoming my fear.  I was really ready to glide down the mountain.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What happened on that run down the mountain that ended up getting Linda lost?
A. Steve: What you didn’t see was that there were several people who got lost.  I knew she was running behind but other teams were lost, too.  She didn’t have water or any preparation for a 4 hour trek down a mountain.  The last thing she needed, when she got to the bottom, was me yelling at her.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think that the race strengthened or improved the bond that the two of you have?
A. Steve: I think we have a pretty strong marriage. We had that going in and coming out of the race.  Linda knows how I am and I know how she is.
A. Linda: Normally, he can say things to me and I don’t pay any mind.  I overreacted with all that crying and carrying on.  That’s what married people do, they turn on each other in stressful times.
A. Steve: We love each other.  There was a lot of pressure.  Nobody wants to be the first ones eliminated and there are so many emotions.  I apologized to Linda.  She got a public apology out of it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Has being on The Amazing Race made you want to travel more in the future?
A. Steve: We’re trying to plan a trip to Peru.  We cancelled a trip there in order to do the race.  When we have more money, I’d love to go to Europe.
A. Linda: This sounds really simple but I’d love to go to New York.  I think it’s the coolest place!
