G.C. Gives Up On Survivor 17: Gabon
By: Mary Cavaliere

The first challenge consisted of a large pile of fruit being tossed to other tribe members while a member of the opposing tribe used a club to block the fruit from being passed and eventually ending up in a basket that was weighed at the end of the challenge.  It was definitely more about winning than anything else because the reward was kind of shabby in my opinion – a live herb garden and a few select spices.  Whoop-de-doo!  FANG’S fruit weighed in at 16 pounds while KODA won the challenge with 18 pounds.

Once again the KODA tribe chose Sugar to head off to Exile Island.  She took it all in stride and once again enjoyed all of the fresh fruit and R&R knowing full well she didn’t have to spend her time looking for the immunity idol.  Speaking of that, Crystal took me by surprise when she searched through Sugar’s bag when she wasn’t looking and told her alliances that Sugar did, indeed have the immunity idol. You better be careful Dan and Crystal because karma is an SOB!

G.C. seemed to be losing his drive to remain in the competition.  He even went among the missing so he could think things through, and his tribe almost had to go to the immunity challenge without him.   He went on and on about what’s important to him at home and blah blah blah, but the fact of the matter is he is a weak individual and not cut out for this game.  That was proven the day he was nominated as the leader and it only lasted one day because he couldn’t take the pressure.  His behavior this week just confirmed his immaturity.  He played the “Woe is me, I’ve had a rough life” record.   G.C., we ALL have had a hard life but as long as you continue to wallow in that self-pity nothing will change in your life and you’ll never win at anything, never mind Survivor!

The immunity challenge was one of the most interesting I’ve seen on Survivor.  One member of each tribe had to throw a ball down a cliff.  At the bottom of each hill were two tribe members, one from each team that possessed a shield to block the balls from entering the goal area. The only problem was they were also blind-folded and had to be coached by a fellow tribe member on where to move to make the block.  Each goal was marked with a different number of points.  The team with the most number of points at the end of five rounds would win immunity.  KOTA was once again the winner and Ace was obviously annoyed that Sugar wasn’t helping him to win the challenge.  But he seemed to forgive her quickly, which I’m sure would not have been the case if she wasn’t blonde and beautiful!

There have been five tribal councils to date, and FANG has been at four of them.  There was a lot of discussion after everyone learned that Sugar had the immunity idol about blind-siding her because she would never expect it and as a result, would not play the idol.  But the editors did a good job of convincing the audience that Sugar would be blind-sided like Ozzie was last season, and thus would be going home.  Yet when the votes were counted, the majority gave C.G. his heart’s desire and sent him packing.
