JUDGES SAY THIS IS THE BEST SEASON EVER ON SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

By: Mary Cavaliere

I have to agree.  These kids have been kicking butt since the first episode.  The guest judge for this week was Hairspray’s Adam Shankman.

Top 8 Girls:  COMFORT, KOURTNI, COURTNEY, CHELSIE, CHELSEA, KHERINGTON, NATALIE, and KATEE.

Top 8 Guys:  JOSHUA, TWITCH, MATT, MARTIN, THAYNE, CHRIS, WILLIAM, and GEV.

Kherington &Twitch performed a hip-hop piece.  It was a cute number but I thought it was mediocre in the wonderful world of hip-hop.   When Nigel said they danced it brilliantly and Mary screamed for them I was truly a bit miffed.

Courtney & Gev performed a rumba.  Oh my…..this routine couldn’t have gotten any hotter!!!!  I don’t know why Mary didn’t put them on the hot tamale train because they were phenomenal.  Was I the only one who noticed Courtney’s heel got caught in her dress and she very discreetly unhooked it without so much as a flinch?  Now that’s a pro!

Comfort & Chris did a jazz routine.  It was very interesting choreography.  If another couple had performed it I think it could have been genius.   But this routine didn’t work for me.  I think Comfort has very weak form compared to many of the other female dancers.  This is the third week I have not been impressed with this couple.  I don’t see how they can remain another week at this point.

Jessica & Will performed a disco routine.  I hated the song and felt bad this was what they had to dance to.  I thought the choreography was strange for a disco routine.  But I think they did a decent job.  Phenomenal?  No.  But enough to come back next week?  Definitely!

Kourtni & Matt performed a contemporary piece.  This is definitely one of my favorite couples.  They are so enjoyable to watch together.  They make me SMILE when I watch them and I thought the choreography rocked it!

Chelsea & Thayne performed a quick-step.  I thought the choreography was weak and the dancing wasn’t in sync between the two dancers.  It was a good try but it wasn’t quite up to par compared to the other performances.  Obviously all three judges agree that these two will be dancing for their life tomorrow night.

Chelsie & Mark performed a hi-hop number.  Now this is the kind of hip-hop number I love.  There are characters and a definite story being told.  I thought the choreography as well as the dancing was brilliant (and I wrote this before Nigel gave his feedback which was identical).  Adam Shankman says they are the couple to beat!

Katee & Joshua performed a samba.  I was a little disappointed in Katee’s performance.  She lacked the hip action needed to pull this dance off.  I disagreed with Nigel because she had all the steps but technically I didn’t feel she was as good as her partner.  Joshua absolutely killed it.  He just dripped with passion and sexuality.  I couldn’t take my eyes off of him!

My top three this week are once again Kourtni & Matt and Courtney & Gev along with Chelsie & Mark.  Once again at risk is Comfort & Chris as well as Chelsea & Thayne.

RESULTS ::

I loved the opening number.  It was no surprise to me that it was once again the brilliant work of Mia Michaels.  I also loved that "cat walk" with Ms. Deeley!  She just brightens the stage every time she makes an entrance.

The first guest performer was a dance troupe called Quest which includes three former So You Think You Can Dance contestants (Ryan, Dominic, and Hawk).  I enjoyed the dance number and I also envied the one girl in the entire group!

The second guest performer was Jordon Sparks.  As usual she was gorgeous and sang with perfection.  Jordon is only one of two American Idol contestants that won that I was rooting for.  The other was Kelly Clarkson.   What I also love about Jordon is she is such a great role model for young woman.  She doesn't look anorexic or painfully thin.  She is a healthy size and represents what REAL women look like yet she is absolutely stunning!

The bottom three couples this week were Chelsea & Thayne, Kourtni & Matt, and Comfort & Chris.  I don't get why Kourtni and Matt keep ending up in the bottom three.  I think this girl has total star power and just doesn't belong there!

The six at risk danced for their lives and here is what I rated them on a scale from 1-10:

Chelsea - I love watching this girl dance - 10

Thayne - Perfection as usual - 10

Comfort - Same old same old - 5

Chris - He just doesn't capture my attention very well - 7

Kourtni - This girl has true star power - 10

Matt - Excellent as usual - 9

I think the judges got it all wrong this week with regard to the girls.  I am totally miffed that they sent Chelsea home and kept Comfort, who is one-dimensional, and obviously can't perform much more than hip-hop, and even that is mediocre at best.  Go figure.  My heart goes out to Thayne because my guess is dancing with Comfort, he will once again end up in the bottom three next week when the Top 7 perform for us once again.

Top 7 Girls:  COMFORT, KOURTNI, COURTNEY, CHELSIE, KHERINGTON, NATALIE, and KATEE.

Top 7 Guys:  JOSHUA, TWITCH, MATT, MARTIN, THAYNE, WILLIAM, and GEV.
