So, after filling out, but never submitting the Big Brother application the last three years, I finally mailed in my application for Big Brother 14 yesterday. I spent a painstaking month filling out each question, making sure I was clear, articulate, interesting, and honest. I agonized over what photos to submit, and wrote and rewrote my points for my two minute video a million times, before shooting even once! And then, I realized, my twenty pages of application could be boiled down to one nutty phrase: "Hi, I'm Julia! I literally see dead people! No, really!" I know reality shows like BB love the loonies...but I somehow suspect I'm a little too loony. Lol! Nevertheless, I'm proud of myself for actually sending it in this time. Today, remember, you'll lead a much happier, healthier life if you learn to laugh at your self! Happy Tuesday from your resident loony! Your votes are in!
Despite all the time I've spent helping people find the beauty in themselves, even I battle with insecurity. I was struggling to capture a headshot for my profile, where I was smiling, and looked pretty, instead of creepy. I've always hated my smile...hence, why five years of local modeling hadn't provided a "pretty" headshot before. Just as I was growing frustrated, though, and was ready to give up...my dear husband chimed in to remind me that I AM beautiful, no matter how often I think I'm just creepy, and dwell on my insecurities. The lesson here: All of us, EVERYONE, has insecurities about something or other. Today, be kind to yourself. Instead of dismaying over crow's feet, pudgy thighs, or a smile that always looks forced...look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment. It all sounds very cliche, but I've seen positive affirmations work wonders. And, remember you have a friend here, with her forced-looking smile, and beautiful sapphire eyes. I was talking to a dear friend of mine about a hot issue in the country right now: Equal rights for the gay and lesbian community. He had this to say, and I thought it was worth sharing: "I don't like the stigma attached to the terms straight, gay, or bi, because people still assume being "straight" means you're a good wholesome person, but being gay or bi means there's something wrong with you. If you ask me, can't I just tell you I'm not picky and buy you a drink?" He's a great guy (bisexual) that really sees things to love in all of us...and I liked his thought above. Remember, hatred and prejudice are the two biggest things that hold us back. Today, practice tolerance. Just because someone else's political views, religious views, or sexual orientation is different from yours, if they're not hurting anyone, would it really hurt you to try to understand? Have a wonderful Sunday. Your votes are in!
In the age of the, "smart phone," I'm sure we've all heard of the horrifying, yet amusing phenomena that is auto-correct, predictive text, or T9, where your phone automatically chooses the word it thinks you mean. Well, I actually got e-mailed about the Amazing Collection show I applied for. I collect bladed weaponry. The casting director had a very flattering comment for me, quote, "Omg, you're like a superhero!" I was very flattered, and tried to text my sister the same comment. My phone helpfully changed, "superhero," to..."spaghetti!" Thanks, SMRT phone! Have a fantastic weekend - your votes are in!
This morning, I woke up, and did what I do every morning: grab my phone, and check for overnight e-mail and messages I need to answer before my day starts. The first message was a text, from my sister in medical school. Quote: "I like cheese, and I'm not wearing any pants." Sent, 3:56. The funniest part? This message is no cause for alarm, coming from her! Today, thank a loved one for their uniqueness, and for being a part of your life. TGIF - your votes are in!
Snow is falling here in Colorado this morning. As the snow flurries dance across the country, drive safely, everyone. But also take a moment to look at the purity and beauty of freshly fallen snow - really one of God's miracles. Have a beautiful Thursday - your votes are in!
Who says your brain can't learn new things after it turns 50? I just drove 12 blocks in the right lane with my left turn signal on. I've never done that before! I'm so proud!!!!! Voted.
