Some insist talking about race only inflames the problem. Others fear anything they say may be misunderstood or forever mark them with a Scarlet R.
We know it can be hard to talk about race, especially when you are white.
But a 2014 MTV poll found that 48 percent of whites, ages 18-24 believe they experience unfair treatment more often than people of color.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
MTV is trying something different, a documentary exploring the ideas, experiences and attitudes of young, white Americans around race. We think its time to think. It's time to talk.
Is something happening in your life that's making you think a lot about race?
Are you one of a few white people at your school, your job or in your community?
Have you faced discrimination? Or, have you tried to do something to stop other people from being mistreated? Are you a person trying to do something about bigotry?
Do people fail to get your jokes or accuse you of being racist? Has pressure to be politically correct made you share your thoughts anonymously online?
Are you questioning any possible advantages you may have had as a white person? Has something in your life has made you resent what other groups seem to get?
