Survivor's Ozzy Finds Real Immunity Idol And Creates A Fake One To Replace It

Tonight’s episode began where it left off last week, with Jonathon and Cirie arguing.  In addition the Favorites felt they made a mistake in sending home Yau-Man.  With Eliza being sick and overly-dramatic about it, they realized that maybe she should have been the one to go after all.

It was also another night of listening to the Fans moan and groan about how lazy Chett is.  But although he walked around with a target on his back all night, he was not the one eliminated at the end of the show.

The first challenge consisted of retrieving coconuts from under the sea with letters painted on them.  Once ten coconuts were retrieved, they were used to put together a puzzle.  The reward was three egg-laying chickens.  Chett sat out this challenge which was probably a good idea since he was already a moving target for elimination.  Ozzy played it real smart.  He was the first one to retrieve a coconut but rather than just getting his own, he stayed under the water and positioned all the others to make it easier for the rest of his tribe to bring theirs to the surface as well.  His strategy paid off and the Favorites won the challenge.

So who did the winning tribe send to Exile again (for the third time)?  Kathy of course!  Oddly enough, she didn’t see it as a negative.  Having been sent away first with Ami, then Cirie, and now Ozzy, she was learning all she could from these three masters of the game.  But Ozzy once again showed us how good he is at Survivor by telling Kathy he was going to go and look for food when in all actuality he went hunting for the immunity idol.  It was no surprise to me when he found it and then hid it in his hat so no one would know. But if that wasn’t clever enough, he also carved from wood a “fake” immunity idol and hid it in the same exact place as the real idol for some future sucker to find.  This is a guy who truly knows how to play this game and thus deserves to win in my book.

The second challenge, for immunity, was centered around a six-point sliding hub, locks and keys, and necklaces that spelled out a message.  Once again the Favorites took the challenge leaving the Fans to decide who was going home tonight.

Last week I mentioned that not much was said after the fact about Joel conspiring to have Mary voted off on week one, but it did re-surface again this week.  Mikey thought he was doing a fine job of getting close to Joel.  His strategy was to keep Joel around a bit longer because he’s physically strong, but then when the time was right, Joel would be voted off.  But once again Joel outsmarted him and it was Mikey who was voted out this week.  I honestly thought it was a poor decision on Joel’s part.  I believe in the beginning of the game you need to keep the strong ones around as long as possible to assure winning the physical challenges.  They should have sent Chett home as originally planned.  Although Joel is probably feeling quite proud of himself right now, I’m not sure how good he’s going to feel when they lose yet another challenge next week.

And speaking of next week, the previews showed that the tribes are going to be mixed together already, something that isn’t usually done so early in the game.   This kind of twist always lends itself to a more interesting and unpredictable competition.
