I’m a huge fan of American Idol. But tonight’s show was the most boring episode I’ve ever watched. That is until the very last performance of the night. Last week I thought David Archuleta was the BEST OF THE NIGHT and tonight was a repeat performance. David’s rendition of John Lennon’s IMAGINE was absolutely brilliant and I’m sure Paula and I were not the only two crying through the entire song.
Tonight’s episode showcased the Top 10 guys with music from the 70’s. Last week was the 60’s. I guess that means we have the 80’s to look forward to next week. I tried to find something positive in every performance to balance my negative comments. Here’s my yin and yang on each performer this week:
1) Michael Johns ~ Positive: He has a strong, solid voice. Negative: He’s not original enough. I was bored with his performance.
2) Jason Castro ~ Positive: He is very unique and original. Negative: Doing a song by the Bee Gees was not in his best interest this week.
3) Luke Mendard ~ Positive: A very interesting and unique song choice. Negative: He didn’t sing it very well at all. Last week I thought he was the worst of the night. In spite of his good looks, I don’t see him lasting too long in this competition.
4) Robbie Carrico ~ Positive: His best vocal to date. Negative: He still bores me to death. I also wish he would wash his hair. Being a rocker doesn’t mean you have to look unclean.
5) Danny Noriega ~ Positive: He has strong vocals and he’s adorable. Negative: He had some pitch problems tonight, and for the second week in a row, he made a bad song choice. His performance was a bit lifeless and I was disappointed because I love this kid a lot!
6) David Hernandez ~ Positive: He definitely bumped it up a notch or two from last week. One of the best vocals of the night. It was hot! Negative: The only thing I could find wrong was the hood on his jacket. It looked juvenile. But he was still hot!
7) Jason Yeager ~ Positive: A much better vocal than last week. He obviously got control of his nerves. Negative: He’s still a bit boring and predictable.
8) Chikezie ~ Positive: His vocals were excellent and he reeked of sex appeal. One of the best of the night! Negative: Sorry Simon, but I loved his orange suit last week. The jeans and the sneakers and the golf shirt just did not work for me.
9) David Cook ~ Positive: Strong vocals the same as last week. Negative: I agree with Simon. He does not have the looks or charisma to carry him through. I feel that his vocal ability is one-dimensional.
10) David Archuleta ~ Positive: THEY SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST! He literally saved the night. Negative: I could not find anything negative about the way he looked or performed. He is definitely positioning himself to win this competition!
There were a lot of contenders that could be at risk of being voted off, but if it were my decision I would vote the same as last week (Luke Mendard) with Robbie Carrico right behind him.
Overall I will say this. The guys had better step it up next week because I think tomorrow night the girls are going to kick some butt!
