Tsonga Basin - Carrie bowed out early due to ticks so Darrin and Kim are the duo left standing. Kim survived 17 days alone so she's no stranger to abandonment. But at least she still has Darrin, who is willing to do tick checks with her. I mean, they are laying on each other and petting each other's hair... is there a love connection in Africa? Well there certainly might be after he brings home a 10 pound monitor for dinner. The biggest concern with eating lizard is the bacteria, but maybe if they jerky-ize it over the fire it'll be ok? Who cares, there's a storm-a-comin' and the pair need to huddle close. Bow chica wow wow. There's no time for love, however, because Kim is having a reaction to tick bites, possibly tick fever. This group's XLR score is at 6.6 because of Darrin's dinner date menu.

Pondo Ravine - The alpha males are begging for protein and focusing on big game. Using mud as camouflage and a hand made blind, they're plan is to stay still for hours waiting for game to approach. We'll call it a grab and stab. But unfortunately they're out of luck and patience. The alpha males aren't so alpha and their XLR rating dips to 7.2 because of lack of food.

Sotho Gorge - Less than one week into 40 days and 40 nights and Clarence is already begging for a medic. He has refused to drink the elephant poop water and doesn't want to eat because it will take energy from his body to digest the food. He has forced his group to leave the gorge in search for cleaner water. They travel through heat and thorns looking for water, getting as far as 5 miles. Jake tries to go ahead of the group and scout their location but while the map shows bodies of water, he is reminded that there is a significant drought happening. Until there's a magic lake appearing in front of him. And also a group of nymphs. Or alpha females from Swati Valley. Yep, they have met up with the valley girls. Unfortunately he forgot that he's got a pair of group members behind him waiting on his return. Oops. But who cares? THERE'S WATER AND PEOPLE! And a tree to jump off of just for fun.

The new Swati Valley groups is: Clarence, Stacey, Jake, Tawny, Alyssa and Phaedra. Remember when all Clarence did was complain about water? Well now all he can do is complain about the heat. You win some you lose some, I guess. His new plan is to do as little as possible to conserve energy. Everyone else in the valley thinks he's lazy. While they're talking smack about him behind his back, he's catching them fish. In a beautiful, bonding moment, the group gets to witness a herd of elephants at the watering hole after dinner. The next day they plan is to smoke out a porcupine from it's burrow by using heated elephant dung. Unfortunately enough, it isn't the animal that gets smoked out, it's Clarence. He's exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion or an anxiety attack and can't breath... begging for a medic. The medic says it's a combination of heat stroke and dehydration and he needs to be moved to a cooler location. On the way to the hospital he falls in and out of consciousness. Once there he gets treatment and gets stable but must stay there for 48 hours and is forced to tap out. Now that the two teams have combined, their XLR score raised to 8.1 but since Clarence had to leave their score is sure to drop.
