WE tv is developing a new, unscripted, series focused on basketball moms. The show is produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions, responsible for productions such as "American Ninja Warrior", "Ellen's Design Challenge" and "Hell's Kitchen" . Year-to-date, WE tv is a top 10 fastest growing cable network in prime time with shows such as "L.A. Hair", "Kendra on Top" (which saw record-breaking ratings) and "Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars".
We all know that women sacrifice a lot for their athlete husbands, but now we get to follow five women who have sacrificed everything for their sons. The show will take place in the Houston area focusing on the relationships between the mothers who's sons are playing on rival youth teams. The women range between a single mom, the "pot stirrer", a party girl and even a coach's wife. Each unique story will play out but the one constant is their rivalry and competitiveness.
"Any show focused on parents, kids and a shared activity has the right ingredients for high drama," Marc Juris, WE tv president. Basically, think Dance Moms but for NBA-hopefuls. Of course there will be drama and love/hate relationships, but add in the pressure of a future in the NBA and you've really got a recipe for ratings. One question remains, how much will we get to see the boys and their talent? Basketball is a way of life, not just for the children, but for the mothers as well.
