Naked and Afraid: Jason & AK Redemption Road

Back in Guyana we see a familiar face, AK from Alabama. The first time she didn't make it in Peru if you'll recall. She's back and ready to prove herself.

AK starts out with a PSR score of 4.3 because of her previous tap out. She brings along potassium permanganate to purify water (just a few crystals can neutralize up to two pints of water but can irritate eyes and skin if handled incorrectly). That's a first. Jason is 31 from Colorado. He's doing this challenge for his grandfather ands scout handbook from 1945. After his death in 1997 became Jason's motivation. His initial PSR is 6.2 and he brings along a machete and they were given a flint.

Before he even gets too close he can tell it's AK and doesn't seem impressed. She's obviously never going to live down the mosquitoes in the vajay-jay thing. Sorry, girl. The lone life source is a river that also houses piranas, stingrays and cayman. Flooding is also possible. But the dense jungle above houses poisonous trees.

Night one and AK is already having a tough time. That potassium permanganate from earlier? It has apparently been handled ineffectively. Or maybe it's something else because Jason is feeling the irritation as well. Since he seems to be less uncomfortable he leaves her at the shelter to go hunt. Dude, walking in the water with fresh water stingrays that unleash lethal poison may not be your best idea. No stings yet.

Day 3 is upon them and although AK is feeling better, her usual paranoia is ever-present. Her intent is to make a second shelter "just in case". Jason disagrees and thinks conserving energy is most important. Really impressive bra-top, though, AK! We can't see your ta-ta's while you sweep to make your vacation home.

Day 4 and AK has itchy bumps all over her entire body... again. Will she make it pasty day 4 this go 'round? Maybe working in the canopy on that second shelter wasn't the best idea. Now that her rash isn't as bad as before, she's back working on her home away from home, apparently not learning her lesson. Meanwhile Jason is still hunting but only catching the occasional small crab. And it's Jason's turn to be miserable... waking in the night to see critters scattering and he steps on a hot coal. Bet walking in that dirty water feels lovely.

With no substantial food in their systems and differing work ethics, the bombs are bound to explode. But working together proves beneficial because they catch a HUGE stingray! Now, who knows how to skin and clean a stingray? Building a two shelf smoking system the upper shelf of meat can cook slowly (25 pounds total), maintaining it for the duration of their challenge. This may be the most protein we've seen.

But wait, it starts to rain... lucky for them they have a summer home just up the hill away from the flooding. They have to run, leaving their stingray behind. Two and half days later it's finally safe for them to check out their beach, their shelter and meat are gone. Never mind, it's time to build a raft for extraction. Their only route is via 5 miles of changing river conditions to reach safety. They finally complete their journey. AK leaves her second attempt 5 pounds lighter and her PSR score raises to 6.8. Jason leaves 8 pounds lighter with a higher PSR score of 7.1.
