Naked and Afraid: Lord of the Rats

In Koh Mook, Thailand it's hot, humid and intense. The survivalists are surrounded by limestone cliffs, impenetrable jungle, stinging and biting insects, as well as aggressive herpes b (fatal to humans) carrying monkeys. Not only that, but there's thousands of rats and where there's rats, there's the usual snake dinner... if they're lucky. But these aren't just any snakes, they're king cobras, the largest venomous snake in the world. To start off their journey they're given a fire starter but each also get to bring one survival item of their own.

Darrin is a 33 year old from Colorado who currently works in Utah as a rock climbing guide and chef. According to him his parents would drop him off in the wilderness around age 9 to camp alone. He considers his only family to be his dog so he considers himself a loner. He brings along rope as his one survival item and his beginning PSR is 7.8.

Angela is a 36 year old mom of 5 from Pittsburg. She's a marathon runner and believes that this will help her in the 21 day challenge. She shows up on day 1 with nail polish because she wants to "survive pretty". She brings along a machete and a PSR score of 6.1.

While Darrin will eat anything that breathes Angela is a vegetarian. This doesn't go well when Darrin uses a very clever trap for the rats that climb on them in their sleep. But Darrin doesn't care because he loves his rat-ka-bobs. The other contraption that Darrin brings to the challenge is shoes. While most would think a pot for boiling water (apparently boiling water with hot coal and coconut works and is delicious) would be more appropriate, the rope makes them sandals. It also hangs up their not-so-ripe bananas that give them food for then entire 21 days. The potassium keeps their muscles from cramping and the vitamin B6 staves off mood swings and irritability. But they do argue about the best way to cook them to hasten the ripening process. It turns out that Darrin's steam pit and slow cooking is indeed the best way to release the sugars. Sorry, Ang. Angela doesn't go the whole time without bringing something to the table. She makes a bamboo comb for her hair. She also jumps back in the torrent water after making it to their extraction boat just to save Darrin who was having difficulty. All of this after hiking 3 miles while carrying their bamboo paddle boards. This prissy mommy made it through 15 pounds lighter but a higher PSR score of 6.3. Darrin only lost 6 pounds and raised his PSR score to 8.2.
