The Voice - Sweet Singing Sergeant!

The blind auditions are coming to a close, so we've reached that awkward time when some teams are full and some aren't, some amazing artists are being passed on because the coaches "already have someone with a similar sound" and the coaches have a weird mix of anxiety and selectiveness about trying to fill their teams.

Ashley Morgan, a backup singer looking to pursue her own career, opened the show with Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance" much to Christina's delight. Her voice was solid and strong and she had a great stage presence - all the makings of a good background singer - and my guess is that with the proper coaching, she'll soar to at least the top ten. She had her choice between Blake and Pharrell and she chose Mr. Big Hat himself. I can't wait to see how Pharrell steps outside the box with her.

Koryn Hawthorne, a 16 year old employee of Little Caesars, performed such an inspiring rendition of Emile Sande's "My Kind of Love" that all the coaches embraced. She's a young powerhouse, and she made the right choice by going with Christina. After all, she knows a thing or two about being a young diva!

Another young girl, Brenna Yaeger, 19 had the perfect segment on the show. She shared her happy life experiences growing up in a log cabin with her parents and her five older sisters and the turn things took when her parents got divorced. Her mother was awarded half of their house and they had to sell it - crushing she and her sisters. Her song choice was both extremely bold and very personal - Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me". The song resonates so much with her that she and her sisters tattooed the lyrics on their feet. Picking a song that belongs to the spouse of a coach is always risky but in this case it panned out because she's headed to the battles with Team Blake!

The show closer, a Sargeant in the US army, Jeremy Gaynor, earned a very coveted (and rare) late round blind audition four chair turnaround. He's the male lead vocalist in the West Point band, something he proudly bragged about. He performed Luther Vandross' "Superstar" and MAN did he blow it out of the water! He has a smooth, silky voice with crazy range that surely could ease some of the panties off the ladies in the crowd - if he wasn't already married! Sorry ladies! Looks like Christina got the golden ticket this time - because he chose her!

Maybe I'm just jonesin for a win for Team Xtina, but it seems to me that her team is shaping up to be the ones to watch. Stay tuned for next week as the blind auditions comet a close and the battle rounds begin!

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm EST on NBC.
