Disclaimer: if you're happy that Craig Wayne Boyd won the Voice tonight, stop reading - this blog post isn't for you. 

So Craig was crowned The Voice season seven champion tonight, making Blake a FOUR TIME COACH WINNER. He coached second season winner Jermaine Paul, third season winner Casadee Pope, and season four champion Danielle Bradbury.  He scored MAJOR bragging rights for next season, but something just felt wrong here. It's not that Craig isn't a good artist - because he is - but I think Chris or Damien deserved to win it more. They both display such power and range in their vocals and consistently pushed the envelope each week. Chris was the underdog that came up and Damien is so perfect that I can't stand it. So why did Craig win? My theory is that country music is such a big institution that it carries more voting power. Out of Blake's four winning artists, three of them identify in the country genre. 

Tonight's episode was fun, the finalist got to "bring back" other artists from the season to do group performances so I got to see my favorites like Taylor Phelan, Reagan James, and Danica Shirey. One thing that struck me as odd however was that no one brought back Maiya Sykes. If you can remember, she was the full figured girl who wowed during her blind audition with "Stay With Me" and then she inexplicably was cut during the first round of the battles. Even though she didn't make it far in the competition - she could have and I'm still baffled as to why no one chose to save her when she was eliminated! 

Besides the bring backs there were several big performances including Jessie J, Hozier, Ed Sheeran, and Fall Out Boy. Again, it was a great show, but I'm just not happy with the outcome. A couple more wins and they may as well start calling the show The Country Voice!
